Lisa Maffia angered Good Morning Britain viewers after claiming that phones should be banned from music concerts.

The singer and rapper, 43, argued that people filming "15 to 30" seconds at a gig on their phones isn't the best way to enjoy shows, and that they should just "live in the moment" and "enjoy it".

She went on to say that people think that "going viral, having 15 seconds of a video is capturing life", and approved of artists banning phones from shows.

Speaking on Friday's episode of the show, she said: "I think that we have become a world that thinking going viral, having 15 seconds of a video is capturing life, when it's just 15 seconds, because people are using social media to film these moments at concerts.

"And it's literally over after 15 seconds, and they spend another five editing it making sure it looks alright before posting it to the world.

"I just think… live in the moment, have a chance to enjoy it, and just have that memory.

"I feel like that's probably why I've lasted 21 years in this industry, because people go home and actually speak about how wonderful Lisa Maffia and Romeo are on stage, you must go and see it.

"Rather than getting that 15 seconds… you can't capture a whole hour's performance in 15, 30 [seconds], or even a whole minute."

The conversation on phones at concerts began after folk music legend Bob Dylan banned phones from his upcoming shows – with fans attending his concerts being asked to place their phones in a pouch as they enter the venue.

They will be able keep the pouch with them, but it won't be unlocked unless they are in certain areas of the arena or after the performance.

He is not the first artist to introduce this, with 80s legend Kate Bush asking fans not to use their phones in her 2014 comeback concert, while Madonna made a similar request in 2020.

But people are very much split on the idea, with Jimmy Constable, member of boyband 911, arguing that people should be allowed to have their phones out as they paid for the experiences.

Speaking on GMB alongside Lisa, he said: "I think it's all about memories. I took my daughter to see the last show of Little Mix, and to this day she still watches it.

"It's a great memory for her to be in the moment on the night, but also to keep watching back and creating even more memories and sharing it between her friends.

"Some of her friends weren't lucky enough to go to a show, but at least she can show them.

"I know the point of being in the crowd, but you don't have to hold the phone in front of your face while you're watching them, you can watch it from the side.

"Everybody's filming but you can still enjoy the moment. I think it's about the memories you can take with you, we were talking earlier about… if you miss that moment, then it's gone.

"It'd be great to look back at pictures and look at reactions of your daughter or somebody else having the best time of their life in the crowd, but you're still watching.

"You can still watch it, you don't have the phone in front of your face the whole time."

There were plenty of viewers angry at the idea of taking phones off you, or making them less accessible – with many referencing the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: "Remember Arianna Grande concert manchester? You keep saying secure building was that a secure building? I wouldn't have wanted my phone locked away in a pouch when that happened."

Another said: "Did she seriously forget what happened at the Ariana concert in Manchester. These places ain’t always secure".

Meanwhile others voiced concerns over forgetting gigs as you get older – or those with dementia being unable to revisit older memories.

One person said: "Absolutely ridiculous-it’s a memory you like to revisit and I know I do for sure. It’s controlling and another choice removed. What about people with dementia? Revisiting older memories when you were in the moment is so important."

Another agreed with the idea in principle but voiced concerns over medical issues, saying: "Good Idea but not practical. I’m a 45yr old type 1 diabetic and my blood sugar is monitored on my phone so I wouldn’t be giving mine up!"
