Loose Women star Carol McGiffin left fans concerned over her appearance during the latest edition of the ITV daytime show.

The 53-year-old broadcaster was back on the Kaye Adams, Brenda Edwards and Nadia Sawalha on Thursday (March 2) afternoon.

Before the famous foursome discussed the latest news, viewers were distracted by Carol's face.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "WTF has happened to Carol's face today? Serious question."

Another added: "Has Carol had a face peel?"

A third person posted: ""Why is Carol bright red?"

While a fourth social media user said: "Carol looks burnt to a crisp! Is she ok?"

Appearing make-up free on the show, the TV star later explained: "It looks like I've had a cosmetic procedure of something but I haven't.

"I woke up with a seriously red face, itchy, so I've got no make-up on."

Kaye said: "It's gone better from this morning though. You had a antihistamine didn't you?"

Carol replied: "Yeah, which. made me feel weird. It's not pleasant and i'm fine not to have any makeup on."

Kaye said: Joking aside it's a horrible thing and we're really glad you're here. We'd rather you here then not here. Hopefully the wee tables will work and you'll be fine and dandy."

Carol, who called herself "tomato face" live on air and insisted she hadn't been sunbathing, was later supported by viewers who applauded her decision to continue working despite having a "tomato face".

One viewer said: "Good on Carol for carrying on regardless of her skin issue. Many wouldn’t and would have gone into hiding if even a spot appeared."

A second fan added: "Good on Carol, women shouldn't have to coat themselves in make up, or feel like they have to."

"Takes balls to do that on national TV carol fair play. Balls of steel.," someone else agreed.
