From Celebrity MasterChef, to Breakfast and Radio 5, Louise Minchin has been a principal force on BBC since 1998. The acclaimed television presenter celebrates her 54th birthday today, and to mark the occasion Express.co.uk explores her incredible fortune and what she’s doing now.

According to Net Worth Post, Minchin is worth an incredible £2.6million.

In June 2021 she announced live on the breakfast show that she would be leaving television screens after more than two decades with the BBC.

The BBC’s annual report in 2020 highlighted Minchin as one of the highest-paid members of the Breakfast show.

It estimated Minchin earned between £215,000 and £219,999, while her co-host Dan Walker reportedly earned between £260,000 and £264,999.

Minchin has ventured into almost every corner of the BBC since she started working with the broadcaster in the late Nineties.

The Hong-Kong born journalist decided on her career path after studying Spanish at the University of St Andrews.

She started her career with BBC in the Latin America section of the World Service before moving to Radio 5 Live.

In the same year she married her husband David Minchin and soon became a core member of the radio station.

She presented an array of shows on the radio station, and in 2001 ventured into television presenting.

The journalist initially became a BBC News Channel presenter alongside Jon Sopel with a 7pm to 10pm time slot.

The duo then moved forward together to an earlier time slot and were joined by Emily Maitlis.

Three years later Minchin was made a relief presenter on BBC Breakfast, as the show’s usual host Kate Silverton covered for the main anchor Sian Williams.

However, once Williams returned Minchin stayed on the show as a co-host and became the regular weekend presenter.

Eventually it was announced that Minchin would be replacing Williams altogether as the programme’s filming location moved to Salford, Greater Manchester.

From 2012 until June 2021, Minchin maintained her place on the news show, and dabbled in other BBC programmes such as Missing Live, The One Show and Real Rescues.

Aside from her journalistic contributions to the broadcaster, Minchin also played herself reading the news in some BBC series, including crime drama Silent Witness.

The reporter made her book debut in 2019 with Dare to Tri: My Journey from the BBC Breakfast Sofa to GB Team Triathlete.

She declared her move away from the BBC in a live episode of Breakfast in June 2021, saying: “It will be this year 20 years since I first presented this programme and since then I have felt part of a huge, enormous BBC Breakfast family who includes everyone who works here, everyone on the team, and every one of you who watches the programme.

“I have loved being part of it but there is a but.

“I have decided it is time that I stop setting my alarm for 3:40am, sometimes when I’m feeling really rebellious, 3:46am in the morning, and I am going to be leaving the programme.”

Following her announcement, Minchin was replaced on Breakfast with regular host Sally Nugent.

In February of this year, Minchin shared why she had decided to take her career next: into the world of podcasting.

She revealed on Instagram she would be hosting Push Your Peak, in partnership with indoor bike company Wattbike.

Minchin explained in the podcast’s trailer that she would be speaking to “some of the world’s most incredible sportspeople”.

She also hosts the Her Spirit podcast, inspiring women to live a “healthier, happier life” which is now in the midst of series five.
