Love Island Ruchee Gurung promises ‘drama’ as she’s ‘not someone to hold back’

Love Islander Ruchee introduces herself

The wait is almost over for Love Island fans who have been counting down the days until they meet the series 10 islanders on ITV2.

A host of sizzling singletons will be gathering around the firepit this evening and hopefully coupling up with each other with the aim of falling in love and winning the series.

One contestant who is “so excited” to be joining the series as well as meeting presenter Maya Jama, 28, is Ruchee Gurung, 24.

Ahead of entering the Spanish villa, Ruchee opened up to Express.co.uk and other media about her plans to “stand up” for herself during her time on the reality dating series.

Ruchee shared: “I’m so excited and proud to represent the Asian community, being from Nepal as well, it’s such a small country.

“Not many people know where Nepal is, people just know Mount Everest [is there].”

She continued: “I am so proud to represent my country. I’ve heard I’ve had a good response and I’m really excited to hear that.”

Ruchee, who lives in Sutton, added: “I feel once the [Nepalese community] see me on [Love Island] they will be quite proud of me.

“Sometimes they can be quite conservative or judgemental or whatever but I feel like once they see me on the show they won’t feel like that.”

Maya will be taking the reins of Love Island this summer following her successful debut on the winter version of the show which was filmed in South Africa.

Ruchee revealed she is thrilled Maya will be back on screens, admitting: “I think I’m more excited to meet Maya Jama, I think she is just so beautiful and I just love her personality.

“I think how she presented the last show as well was so amazing, she did it so well. I am really excited to meet her.”

Ruchee is well aware of the heated rows which can unfold in the villa between the boys and the girls, but she is confident she will be able to stand her ground if needed.

“I will give you the same energy you give to me, I’m not someone to hold back or get emotional and cry about it,” the beautician explained.

“I’ll stand up for myself and if you don’t like it, you don’t like it.

“If someone tries to cause drama with me – if you want drama I’ll give you drama.”

Love Island launches tonight (Monday, June 5) on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm.
