Love Island star Gemma Owen has hit back at claims there was "more going on" between her and Billy Brown in the villa than fans saw on TV.

Gemma, who is the daughter of football legend Michael Owen, came second place on the ITV dating show alongside her partner Luca Bish.

The smitten pair were beaten by fan-favourite couple Davide and Ekin-Su, who managed to sweep up a whopping 63.7% of the public vote.

Gemma, 19, and Luca, 23, were two of the original islanders on this year's series and struck up their romance early on in their eight week Mallorca stint.

However, the pair got embroiled in a heated row over Casa Amor boy Billy Brown during the infamous Movie Night episodes.

Billy entered the series as one of the six Casa Amor hunks who tried to crack on with the likes of Gemma whilst the boys were introduced to six new girls back at the main villa.

Gemma and Billy seemed to share some mildly flirtacious chats at Casa Amor, but one of their exchanges left Luca fuming on Movie Night.

The fishmonger was convinced Gemma had been flirting with Billy after he saw a clip of the new boy asking Gemma for a hug, so he confronted Gemma about the incident.

OG Beachwear businesswoman Gemma was adamant she had never flirted with Billy and didn't entertain his advances.

However, Casa Amor boy Jack Keating claimed Billy and Gemma "vibed big time" and that there was "more going on" between them that viewers didn't see.

Jack had told Daily Star: "From what I saw in our villa in Casa Amor, I know Billy and Gemma got on really well.

"I know that he came back into the main villa, with Movie Night, and things got very awkward between the three of them. But those two definitely vibed big time."

However, Gemma has now slammed the Billy romance rumours, claiming she made it "very clear" to him they were just friends.

She told Cosmopolitan: "here was a rumour about me and Billy knowing each other before the show, or there was something more [between us] on the show that people didn't get to see.

“I'd like to set straight that that is not true. I made it very clear to Billy that it was just a friendship thing and that my eyes were only for Luca."

Ronan Keating's son Jack had told Daily Star there was "definitely more flirting going on".

He added: "I mean, yeah, there was definitely more flirting going on and some of the lads were like 'woah' at points, but it wasn't too serious where you could actually see them cracking on but there were definitely some moments where you were like Billy and Gemma, you never know, you never know."

She also tried to set the record straight about Billy on Heart Radio earlier this week.

Host Jamie Theakston asked her: “Jacques has been saying, more went on with Billy and Gemma than people know. What does he mean by that?”

Gemma replied: "God knows, because it’s an absolute lie. If you think about it, if there was something more to be shown, if there was something more going on, they would’ve shown it. That would’ve been juicy."
