MAFS Matt: ‘I couldn’t comprehend Brad’s behaviour towards Shona’

Matt Pilmoor has shared that he struggles to "comprehend" how his Married At First Sight co-star Brad Skelly treated girlfriend Shona Manderson on the show.

The window cleaner, 29, embarked on a romance with Shona after they had both left the show, and is still going strong with the yoga instructor today.

However, before her relationship with Matt, Shona was matched with model Brad, who was later accused of being "controlling" towards her – and the couple eventually being asked to leave the show due to their 'unhealthy' and 'toxic' relationship.

Chatting exclusively to OK! about what it was like to watch the scenes back, Matt shared: "I couldn’t believe what happened to Shona when she was with Brad, it was behaviour from him that I couldn’t comprehend."

Matt also admits he didn't enjoy watching the start of Shona and Brad's relationship, which saw their instant connection lead to a lot of PDA.

"When I watched Shona [with Brad] in my head I was thinking, “Aw, what are you doing? You’ve known him for about two days"," he laughed.

Later in the series, Brad was seen telling Shona to "shut up" during a cast dinner party, while others picked up on worrying behaviours from him.

He also commented that he "allowed" his new wife to feel all of the emotions she wanted, as their relationship hit bumps in the road.

Those distressing scenes led to the domestic violence charity Women's Aid making an official statement, with Teresa Parker, head of media at the charity, tellingThe Tab , "It is really important that the experts on the show called this out as controlling behaviour and challenged Brad’s view that it was acceptable to say that he had the right to 'allow' Shona to be angry.

"TV programmes like these, which are based on the formation of relationships, need to be aware of the dynamics of controlling and coercive behaviour, and always send a clear message that it is wholly unacceptable."

At the time, a show source told The Sun: "The relationship with Shona was getting toxic. Bosses stepped in before the situation got out of hand.”

For Matt, his journey on the show was significantly more smooth-sailing, as he was matched with Adrienne Naylor – with the couple having a lot in common.

However, things ended shortly after filming as they failed to make it work. And Shona wasn't a massive fan of watching her beau with another woman either.

She said: "It made me too jealous. The first time he said something nice to Adrienne I couldn’t cope. I don’t know how he could just sit there quietly and watch me snogging Bradley in the beginning. I was way more jealous."
