Matt Hancock has placed third on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! after his controversial stint on the ITV series.

The 44-year-old politician has lost out on being crowned King of the Jungle – or should we say, Matt the Monarch – to Jill Scott and Owen Warner.

Despite fans being divided over Matt's stint in the jungle, some fans think he has "redeemed himself" after the general public kept him in for so long.

One fan took to Twitter upon his exit to pen: "Matt may be leaving but he successfully fulfilled his duty of redeeming himself… since people kept him in for so long."

Speaking to Ant and Dec, Matt said he wanted to "show what he is like as a person" to the general public.

Adding: "We don't come across as human enough," explaining how I'm A Celeb has allowed him to do this.

The shamed former Health Secretary appeared to win viewers over with his success in BushTucker Trials and his request for "forgiveness" over his huge failures during the coronavirus pandemic.

Looking back Matt told his campmates: "It's been extraordinary and I feel like I've been able to be myself with you. And the bit I was most worried about was getting on with everybody here."

He was chosen by the public to do six BushTucker Trials in a row as many viewers wanted to see him suffer, but he committed to winning meals for camp and did well in them, especially when he completed Tentacles of Terror in a giant metal octopus.

Matt said: "My highlight was definitely getting the 11 stars in the octopus trial. I was really bricking it and I wasn't expecting to be worried. And then I saw the alligator and really, I nearly lost it.

"And I was new to camp, I didn't know everybody very well so to come back in with eleven stars. That was pretty good.

"It's very much a shared experience and that's been one of the joys of it. The level of camaraderie."

Hancock, 44, the MP for West Suffolk was a late entry on the show and beat Lioness Jill Scott and Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner in the final leaving many viewers stunned.
