My Mum, Your Dad new arrival Jessica hopes dad Martin ‘sees the funny side’ of show

My Mum, Your Dad has only been on our screens for two nights, and it's already time for a new arrival.

As the contestants get to know each other, sparks are already starting to fly between some pairs, but for others, it is going to take some time.

However, some of them could be in for a nice surprise when Martin H arrives on Wednesday night, after being put forward for the show by his daughter, Jessica.

What the contestants don't know is that their children are the dating experts, and Jessica is hoping that Martin will see the "funny side" of that when the show comes to an end.

Martin, 56, is a retired basketball player, sports presenter and MD from Birmingham, but he lives in Epsom, and he is hoping to meet someone who is "young at heart" on the show.

Ahead of arriving on the show, Martin explained what he is hoping to find while in the mansion: "I’d love to meet somebody who is young at heart, adventurous and prepared to take a few risks.

"The caring bit sort of goes without saying. Self-sufficient as well and someone who has lived a life, someone who has paid attention through life and may have read a book or two, gone out there and lived!"

He has also explained that he is both excited and nervous to be taking part in the dating show.

Martin explained: "I’m excited and terrified in equal measure. I’m excited to meet people in similar situations to me as in single with adult kids.

"I want to understand more about the experiences they’ve had. I could find someone I could have a connection with – I don’t know.

"Maybe this will give me the confidence to get out there and when someone smiles at me to ask them out for a coffee or something, rather than running the other way."

Jessica, 23, has put her dad forward for the show, as she thinks that he has focused on his children and his work for long enough, and he "deserves" to be with someone.

She said: "I want him to get out there a bit. He’s been focused on us kids and his work and not even really thought about the possibility of meeting someone new that he could date or have a relationship with.

"He deserves that and to have someone to do nice things with and have an emotional connection with outside of his kids."

Jessica has also shared what she hopes he will get out of the two-week experience, as she said: "I want him to realise that he’s deserving and he’s allowed to want someone that’s nice to him and cares for him and isn’t just taking him for granted."

My Mum, Your Dad continues tomorrow night at 9 pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
