The BBC Breakfast presenter has been an anchor for the broadcaster since 2008 when she first joined the BBC Working Lunch Team. Since 2010 she has presented the morning bulletins with co-host Charlie Stayt and isn’t afraid to call out guests when she disagrees with their views or offers a counter-argument. However, she recently admitted she was told to “toughen up” before taking the role as she used to be “too sensitive”.
Being on the TV each morning with the eyes of the nation on you to deliver the latest news can come with certain challenges such as trolling on social media.
Naga explained that she feels the “scrutiny is ever-present on social media because everyone has an opinion”.
She expressed that no matter how you may word things or slip up in the slightest way, people will interpret it how they want to and run with it.
“Not that it stops me from doing my job, and doing it the way I do it, but you are very aware that the scrutiny is bigger,” she told Radio Times.

Naga also admitted that she has developed a thick skin over the years after being told that she was quite sensitive before taking the job.
“I remember when I first decided I wanted to explore being on air, I was told, ‘You are quite sensitive.
“You do take criticism quite hard and you dwell on things. You need to toughen up.’ And I did.”
Looking back at her time as a young journalist in her first job, she told how she had copy thrown at her and told she was “b****y useless”.
She explained that even though she cried a lot in the beginning, it taught her to not make mistakes and that mistakes weren’t acceptable.
As well as hosting the BBC news show she also has her own radio show on BBC Radio 5 Live, which saw her land a huge pay rise in July last year.
She was given an impressive 30 percent pay rise, taking her from the £195,000 – £199,999 bracket up to £255,000 – £259,999.
However, when the news was announced that she and many other BBC stars were getting a pay rise, viewers of the network were not happy and took to their social media to air their frustrations.
@NewsJunkieENG frustratedly asked: “Why has Naga Munchetty had a 30% pay rise?”
@Len424 added: “Can’t believe anyone thinks Naga Munchetty is worth a 30% pay rise. It can’t be for her embarrassing attempt at banter nor her forensic interviewing technique.
“It’s like they say it’s not what you know it’s who you know.”
Taking a screenshot from the latest reports, @CarterCarter fumed: “30% pay rise for Naga Munchetty. Well, it’s only money. Our money, mind. #bbc.”
However, not all viewers were frustrated by the news, with @JoMoMup defending: “I think it’s more that BBC needs to justify why they pay that.
“I don’t know anyone who would say, nah, that’s too much, pay me less, when offered a salary!”
@BBCBandit replied: “Exactly. People assume once the morning is over she f***s off and does nothing. She’s a journalist, her day doesn’t stop.” (sic)
