The second season of NCIS Hawaii is in full swing and the next episode, Changing Tides, promises to be one of the CBS drama’s most nail-biting yet. In it, Jane Tennant (played by Vanessa Lachey) and the team must race against the clock to try and put a stop to a fentanyl drug ring threatening to sweep the island following the death of a Marine Corporal who’s been exposed to the drug.

To give fans a taste of what’s in store for the episode, CBS has released a handful of sneak peeks and promos showing the team at work.

However, the latest clip hints that Jesse (Noah Mills) could end up fighting for his life when a recovery mission goes very wrong.

The peek opens with Jesse infiltrating a drug lab in order to save and retrieve a hostage the gang have in the grips named Tyler (Kyle Leatherberry).

With Kai (Alex Tarrant) watching over Jesse from afar, the NCIS agent makes his way through the lab undetected until he finds Tyler tied up in a freight container.

Jesse manages to work his way inside the container where a beaten and bloodied Tyler pleads: “I swear I didn’t tell anyone! It was just me and Cameron.”

Jesse tries to get Tyler to quieten down but unaware he’s there to save him, the hostage yells: “It was just me and Cameron! Please!”

Jesse barks: “I said shut up! You see what it says on my chest? I’m the good guy.”

“You’re getting me out of here?” Tyler says in relief as Jesse tells him: “Yeah if you close your mouth for two seconds. Can you walk?”

“Yeah, I think so,” Tyler says but as soon as he gets to his feet he falls against the wall.

“You really are a pain in my a*s, come on,” Jesse says as he helps Tyler up before radioing to Jane and Lucy Tara (Yasmina Al-Bustami): “I got Tyler, we’re coming out.

But Kai’s uneasy when he spots an armed henchman making his way to the container: “Jesse, wait. Jesse…”

The henchman enters and it doesn’t take long for him and Jesse to become embroiled in a fistfight.

“Kai. What’s going on there?” Jane shouts from HQ as the feed to Jesse’s body cam is interrupted.

Unable to help Jesse and with no eye on him, Kai tells her: “No visual on Jesse.”

As the fistfight ensues, Jesse inadvertently sets off the henchman’s assault rifle, alerting the rest of the guards

“We got gunshots!” Tara yells in anguish before Jane orders Kai: “Kai! Breach now!”

But with Jesse now isolated in the container and armed guards closing in, it doesn’t look good for him.

Plus, Kai and his lookout team are outnumbered by the sheer number of guards at the lab site.

If bullets start flying, could the gang end up killing Jesse in the crossfire or as retaliation for breaking into their base?

Or if Kai and the team close in, Jesse may well be taken hostage given the crew’s track record, again leaving his life hanging in the balance.

NCIS Hawaii season 2 continues Monday on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
