Agent Sam Hanna (played by LL Cool J) dealt with an intensely personal case in the latest episode of NCIS: Los Angeles’ 14th season. However, as the hit CBS drama continues to pack a punch each week, much of the audience was more concerned about the whereabouts of fan-favourite agents Kensi Blye (Danielah Ruah) and Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen).

Several fans have vented their complaints on social media after Kensi and Deeks failed to make an appearance in last week’s episode of NCIS: LA.

In the fourth episode of season 14, Agent Hanna was called in to deal with a personal matter when his son Aiden (Tye White) aborts a crashing plane and is blamed for the incident.

Meanwhile, Devin Roundtree (Caleb Castille) was conflicted over how to handle a clear case of racial profiling by the LAPD against him and his sister from last season.

While the latest episode touched on some important issues and returned Hanna’s son back into the fold, many viewers were disappointed by the reduced cast.

Replying to the official NCIS: LA Twitter page, @JayAre70 said: “This season is getting really frustrating.

“Every week, half the cast seems to be missing. And when there, the regular teams are not working together. What is going on?”

“As great as this episode is .. the best part is missing. #NCISLA #densi,” @Jaz07P added, referring to the nickname for Deeks and Kensi’s relationship.

Marni Ockene asked: “Why is there always one main cast member missing from every episode of #NCISLA?”

@kwanfan1212 wrote: “Good ep of NCIS: LA tonight (I liked the story with the three Hanna men).

“Although I really missed having Deeks and Kensi around tonight. Hope they’re featured a lot next week to make up for this week!”

Leo Schwartzer said: “I’m sorry but the magic of #densi is unmatched and while this a great ensemble cast, no other dynamic on this show comes even close.

“They make the most fantastic partners not only professionally but personally as well.”

And @det_Axel_Foley questioned: “Don’t know why they didn’t have Rountree go talk to Deeks, about dealing with the LAPD.”

Deeks’ experience as a LAPD liaison officer for the NCIS before he became a field agent could have provided some invaluable advice in Roundtree’s hour of need.

Unfortunately, core cast members Eric, Daniel, LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell will all be taking sporadic breaks throughout the current season, so they won’t be on-hand for every NCIS mission or personal problem.

This doesn’t mean anyone is planning to exit the series just yet, but fans will have to endure episodes without their favourite characters more often than they’re used to.

The change-up for the series has clearly had a mixed response, though, especially considering the last two seasons have mostly been without iconic team leader Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt).

Thankfully, next week’s instalment, entitled Flesh and Blood, should get the series back in the fans’ favour.

Deeks and Kensi are set to be the main focus of the upcoming episode, as Deek’s mother Roberta (Pamela Reed) is in town to finally meet the couple’s adopted daughter, Rosa (Natalia Del Riego).

NCIS: Los Angeles season 14 continues Sundays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
