The new series of Married at First Sight UK is officially in full swing as a fresh batch of singletons marry a stranger that they’ve been matched with. Although over the past few episodes, viewers have seen newlyweds Gemma Rose and Matt Murray have a rocky start to their relationship.
On the day of their wedding, fans saw bride Gemma make a series of crude sexual jokes as she showed her attraction to groom Matt.
Although in the episode, it was clear Matt felt uncomfortable as away from the camera he dubbed the humour “too much.”
Things went from bad to worse on the honeymoon after Gemma feared her remarks made him pull away from her.
Tensions escalated at the commitment ceremony after Matt accused his new bride of ‘masturbating’ at a restaurant when having dinner.
After the scenes aired, Gemma has taken to social media to slam E4 for how they’ve edited the show as she cleared up false claims seen in the series so far.
Before answering a series of questions from followers, she shared an Instagram story saying: “Storylines like this, the storylines they have created of me, ruins lives.
“It’s not okay. I have two children and a business. And I think if you asked any of the team who worked on Married At First Sight they would say I was one of the nicest people that worked on it.
“This is unacceptable.”
The Devon bride added that her husband Matt also made crude jokes on the wedding day, which she claims were worse than what she said, although that didn’t get shown.
Writing a series of statements on her social media, Gemma added: “Have we learnt anything from Love Island? False versions of serious situations and change the storyline so dramatically… RUINS LIVES.’ (sic)
Throughout her series of posts, the MAFS UK star admitted that she regrets going on the show and said she wishes she’d never applied.
After receiving a wave of backlash on Matt’s comments regarding her behaviour at the restaurant, Gemma concluded her post by saying: “By the way, I was eating oysters messing about. NOT MASTURBATING.”
Within her posts, the E4 star said she holds her hands up on taking her humour too far but claims her husband was exactly the same, which viewers have not yet seen.
Furious, she said: “My husband made the same jokes. This portrayal that it was one-sided is ABSURD. OPEN YOUR EYES.”
Meanwhile, with the show teasing there is a cheating scandal set to happen between Matt and other bride Whitney on the show, he’s since broken his silence on social media.
Claiming there was no betrayal, he stated that he and Gemma had called it a day on their marriage and hadn’t spoken for a week.
Matt added that before the couples go on a getaway, he’d asked the producers to go home as he no longer wanted to be in the experiment.
Commenting that he had bigger things to deal with back home, he was asked to stay until the next commitment ceremony as it wouldn’t have made sense to viewers otherwise.
According to Metro.co.uk, a spokesperson for Channel 4 said: “‘Married at First Sight UK episodes are carefully put together so that, while we cannot show every moment of scenes that can take hours to film, we ensure that what we do broadcast is a fair and accurate reflection of the events that unfolded.’
