Saturday night saw the first instalment of the Strictly Come Dancing live shows as 15 celebrities made their dance floor debut with their professional partners. Katya Jones and Tony Adams suffered a slight blip during the evening leading to the Strictly pro asking for another chance.

One of the stars taking part in the 20th series of Strictly is footballing legend Tony Adams who said he was thrilled to be taking part in the BBC show.

After finding out his partner in the pre-recorded launch show on Saturday, it was time for him and Katya to show off their routine after the training they’ve both been enduring.

The dancing duo danced the Tango to a rendition of the song Go West, in homage to Tony’s footballing days.

During their rehearsals, viewers got to see the 55-year-old say he was finding it tough but wanted to dedicate his dance to Arsenal.

Being lowered to the ground on a gold cannon, Tony and Katya then showed off the routine they had been working hard on during their training.

Although there were moments in the performance where the footballer looked a little lost having forgotten some of the steps.

When it was time to get criticised by the judges, they didn’t let his dancing errors go unnoticed.

Craig commented that it looked as though his feet were glued to the floor and called the performance stompy.

Looking as though he was getting emotional at the feedback, head judge Shirley Ballas said he has great potential regardless of the slight mistake.

However, Anton was a bit more ruthless with his criticism as he said: “The thing is when you come out and dance we don’t know what your routine is

“As it turns out neither do you!

Katya then decided to stand up for her partner as she screamed that he does know the steps that were in their performance.

She said: “He does! Can we have another go? Please!”

Although Anton quipped back saying: “That’s the unfortunate thing about this show, you only get one go.”

However, he ended on a more positive note saying he agreed with Shirley that there is great potential for Tony throughout the show.

When it came to scoring the overall performance, the duo received a total score of 15 after all judges gave a 4 apart from Craig who scored a 3.

When Tony was reflecting on his routine with presenter Claudia Winkleman, Tony said he felt as though he let Katya down.

Although Claudia and his Strictly co-stars comforted the star saying he didn’t as they gave him a round of applause.

Tony said: “That was the worst I’ve ever done that, I just wanted to tackle a few people, that’s what I was doing!

“You love it and hate it all at the same time.”
