Yellowstone is back for season five and it saw Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) meet a new character. She came across Abby during one of John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) celebrations as governor of Montana. Lainey Wilson spoke to Express.co.uk about how her own music was incorporated into the show.

Yellowstone fans were excited to see John Dutton return in his new position of power.

During one of the celebrations, a new character was seen watching ranch hand Ryan (Ian Bohen) from the sidelines.

Beth asked Abby if she was interested in Ryan, and Abby ended up dancing with him at the end of the episode.

Actress Lainey has been a country musician for years, writing her first song at just nine years old.

The award-winning performer was spotted by the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, who created Abby especially with Lainey in mind.

Lainey was thrilled to be able to showcase her own music in the series and it is not the first time she has done so.

Three of her songs have already been featured in the Western melodrama, and she has performed for the cast.

She told Express.co.uk: “A lot of the songs in the show are songs that are coming off of my new record.

“But there are a few that were written for the show and it’s so interesting to see where they end up placing these songs.

“A lot of the time it’s not what you would expect, a lot of my songs that got used previously on Yellowstone are not the kind of songs where I’d sit down and think ‘I’m writing this for Yellowstone’.

“I have done that with a few songs and those songs never even get chosen.

“It’s just so interesting how they work. I pretty much sent them over what I had and they said ‘Let’s do this and this’.

“Some of it fits perfectly into the storyline and other times it’s not like the song is for a specific storyline.

“I’m just up there jamming and it’s a song in the background.”

Lainey made her acting debut in the series, having never before set foot in front of a camera for the small screen.

She said: “I feel like a lot of people have only ever seen me on stage, I’m going to be watching myself for the first time with them so we are all going to be judging.

“The thought of it is strange but I sort of feel like when I’m watching it, I’m such a fan of the show I don’t know if it’s really going to click that it’s me. I feel like I’m just so tuned in.”

Following her TV debut, she took to Instagram to ask her fans for their feedback.

She said: “What’d y’all think of the @yellowstone season premiere!? Things are gunna get real this season.

“Y’all better tune in to this week’s episode Sunday night..I might have a lil surprise for y’all.” [Sic]

Fans will have to tune in for episode three to find out what is in store for Abby.
