Peter Andre wades into Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury baby name debate after Kerry Katona slammed Bambi | The Sun

PETER Andre has rushed to defend Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury for calling their daughter Bambi after Kerry Katona brutally slammed their choice.

The couple, who met on Love Island in 2019, caused quite the debate when they revealed their chosen moniker for their baby girl.

Molly and Tommy, 23, revealed that they had welcomed their daughter into the world on January 23 last week on Instagram.

A day later they announced the tot's name – and some, including Kerry Katona, shared that they weren't a fan of the name.

However Peter, 49, has defended their choice in his latest column with OK! Magazine.

Peter wrote: "Molly Mae Hague and Tommy Fury split opinion last week by naming their baby girl Bambi.

Peter Andre reveals why son Junior WON’T appear on his new album

"Now, I am not one to talk about giving your child an alternative name when my kids are called Princess and Junior. However, a child’s name is a personal choice.

"Bambi is a cute little deer, at the end of the day. I just think, why not? It’s up to them.

"Everyone else can have their opinion but it’s irrelevant.

"Molly Mae and Tommy show me there are some great things about Love Island because they’ve stayed together and been hugely successful.

"All power to them. If they love the name Bambi, that’s all that matters."

Peter shares Junior and Princess with ex Katie Price, 44.

He is also dad to Amelia, nine, and Theo, six, who are from her marriage to Emily MacDonagh.

It comes after Kerry said that Molly and Tommy should "change the name" of their daughter to stop her getting "stick" at school.

Kerry is mum to Lilly-Sue, 20, and Molly Marie, 21, who she shares with Brian McFadden.

The star and ex Mark Croft are parents to Heidi, 15, and Maxwell, 14, and she's also mum to Dylan-Jorge, eight, who is from her previous relationship with George Kay.

Writing in her column in OK! Magazine, Kerry said she wasn't "a fan" of their Disney themed name choice.

"Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury announced the birth of their daughter last week," Kerry penned.

"It’s lovely news, but I must admit I’m not a fan of the name.

"I think Bambi Fury sounds a bit ridiculous. It reminds me of the Disney film where the mother gets shot!

"The poor kid might get some stick in school. If they haven't registered the name yet, maybe they should consider changing it."

Bambi, which was released by Disney in 1942, sees a baby deer named Bambi's journey into adulthood after its mother is cruelly shot by a human.
