“I have a feeling this is probably haunting me on the internet,” he says of the viral clip.
Rami Malek and his film "Bohemian Rhapsody" both won big at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, but their success came with one helluva viral moment thanks to presenter Nicole Kidman.
During the show, the "Aquaman" actress presented the final trophy of the night, which went to the Queen biopic for Best Picture — Drama. But when everyone came on stage to collect their award, Kidman iced out Malek completely.
Appearing on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Tuesday night, Malek watched as the host replayed the cringeworthy moment for his studio audience, showing the "Mr. Robot" star approach Kidman to greet her, only to have her turn away from him. He also touched her back to get her attention, to no avail.
Malek laughed along with the audience as he watched the embarrassing moment back, before giving a little insight into what went down on stage. See the footage in the video below.
"I’ve known her for many years, despite as it may seem from that video," he explained. "So I thought I could easily go up and say hi, but in a moment like that, very awkward. I have a feeling this is probably haunting me on the internet."
"It’s alright," he added. "I got love from Keith [Urban] that night, her husband," he explained, calling the country star a "massive Queen fan."
Malek was joined by Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor at the event, but he told Kimmel it "wasn’t necessarily their scene." When asked if it was fun for the duo, Malek said, "I don’t know that it was."
"I think they wanted to enjoy it, it was an exceptional night for everybody, but they’re used to being rock stars and doing rock star things," he continued. "And that was a very Hollywood industry night, I had a blast at. They had a great time, but I think at first it took some getting used to."
Rami also pointed out that "so many big names" came up to them all night, fanning out that they were in the house.
Later in the show, Kimmel also put his guest on the spot over rumors he’ll appear in the next James Bond film as a villain.
"Wow, if I told you that, I’d have to tell you so many things. I have no idea," he said, coyly. "That’s online? On the Internet? Who knows about that. I’m not saying, did I say anything?"
"I always thought you were a great actor, until just now," Jimmy responded.
