The five-part documentary series is back for a third series looking at missing person investigations in the UK – and its latest instalment has left a number of serious question marks.

Each episode follows the police as they search for a missing loved one, including interviews with family and friends.

The emotional stories are told through the eyes of police and the family of the missing person.

It shows the impact upon families but focuses on how police go about investigating these disappearances.

Each episode features investigations into specific cases, from search parties sent out to find missing children to trying to find a man who seems to have left no trace of himself.

Tuesday night's episode revolved around a missing student whose parents feared he had been exploited by a church group.

And viewers were soon left questioning the show after the student was shown to be suffering a mental health breakdown in harrowing scenes.

Taking to Twitter, one person penned: "The story of the missing student has really p***ed me off. They way the church are being secretive is worrying."

Echoing their comments, someone else said: "The police truly have the patience of God. What a poor young man."
