GMB: Dr Sumi Manirajan on Junior Doctor’s strikes
On Wednesday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain, Richard Madeley fumed “Be realistic” during a heated debate with Dr. Sumi Manirajan about the current junior doctor strikes. Getting irate, the Good Morning Britain host questioned what the Doctor would consider to be a credible offer to stop the strikes.
He fumed: “You’re not going to get 35 percent, a lot of people think you deserve 35 percent but you’re not going to get it, obviously. Average settlements are about 8.8 percent in this country at the moment. You’re not going to get anywhere near 35 percent, let’s be realistic. What would you settle for?”
Dr Sumi Manirajan started to tell Richard that Junior Doctors have faced the biggest pay cut in the public sector, although he was quick to cut her off. He interrupted: “Any independent observer would agree with that, you have taken a huge pay cut over the years, that’s a given.
“You don’t have to argue that, that’s accepted. I’m asking a much straighter question and I really would like you to answer it. If you want to say no comment, that’s fine but let’s have a straight answer.”

Asking once again what the BMA will settle for as he informed her they won’t get 35 percent, Dr Sumi Manirajan revealed a credible offer shows the government is serious about addressing the pay erosion over the years.
Elsewhere during the interview, Richard highlighted that the BMA was getting close to a deal with the government overpay not too long ago.
Although with strikes happening once again, he questioned what’s gone wrong since then.
She replied: “The meetings we were having were very productive and we were hoping to move in the right direction. However, there wasn’t a credible offer produced by the deadline.

“We did make this very clear right at the beginning of negotiations. The government failed to meet that deadline and therefore we’re having to take strike action to bring them to the table with a credible offer.”
However, it looked as though ITV viewers were less than impressed by Richard’s frank delivery as many people took to Twitter to fume about the host.
@69FoxyBrown69 said: “Disgusting attitude towards her! The sheer arrogance in your approach towards the doctors is appalling. They save our lives. They have bills to pay too. MPs set for £92k salary. Compare and contrast…”
@SieDSiedSav reeled: “Disgusting interview @richardm56 treatment of this young woman is despicable.”
@StevoJW agreed, adding: “His questioning style was so patronising. Pathetic.”
However, not all viewers shared the same view as @misspaulalondon commented: “I agree with Richard.”
