Right-Wing Commentator Responds to Backlash for Saying Little Mermaid Casting Is Unscientific

‘The Daily Wire’ host Matt Walsh catches heat after claiming that ‘from a scientific perspective, it doesn’t make a lot of sense’ to have a black actress like Halle Bailey playing Princess Ariel.

AceShowbiz -“The Daily Wire” host Matt Walsh is trending on Twitter, but not for a good reason. The political commentator has landed in hot water after claiming that the casting Halle Bailey for “The Little Mermaid (2023)” is unscientific.

In the wake of the release of the movie’s teaser last week, Walsh took to the Wednesday, September 14 episode of his “The Matt Walsh Show” to weigh in on the debate over the actress’ casting. “From a scientific perspective, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to have someone with darker skin who lives deep in the ocean,” he said.

“I mean, if anything, not only should the Little Mermaid be pale, she should, actually, be translucent,” he claimed, before reasoning, “If you look at deep sea creatures, they’re, like, translucent. They have no, kind of, pigmentation whatsoever. And they’re just, like, these horrifying — they look like skeletons floating around in the ocean.”

“That’s what the Little Mermaid should look like. She should be totally pale and skeletal where you can see her skull through her face,” Walsh added, before stressing, “And that would actually be a version of ‘The Little Mermaid’ that I would watch.”

Following his comments, Walsh earned some backlash, with senior researcher at MMFA, Jason Campbell, tweeting, “Matt Walsh is 36 years old and completely consumed with the race of a mythical creature. Unhinged.” Another wrote, “Whatever you do, do NOT tell Daily Wire’s noted biologist @MattWalshBlog about the saltwater Midnight Angelfish.”

Noticing the criticism, Walsh quickly took to his own account to defend himself. “I said Ariel should be played by someone with translucent skin like a real deep sea fish and thousands of Leftists took me seriously and are calling me racist because of it. I’m actually being accused of harboring racial favoritism for translucent people,” he clapped back at his critics, sarcastically adding, “I love it. This is great.”

Matt Walsh responded to backlash over his ‘The Little Mermaid’ comments.

Besides Walsh, a bunch of people have actually shared their negative responses to the casting of Bailey as Little Mermaid. Some people, however, falsely directed their criticism at Halle Berry, mixing up the two actresses due to their similar names.

One person who attempted to attack the actual Ariel depicter tweeted, “Can’t wait to see you under da sea!” while addressing it to the “Catwoman” star. This prompted Berry to defend Bailey as she wrote back, “Wrong Halle lol. I can’t wait to see her too though!”
