Ruth Langsford in tears as her heart is ripped out by huge life change at home

Ruth Langsford has tearfully admitted that her son Jack leaving home was "horrendous" and she felt like she'd had part of her heart "ripped out".

The Loose Women host, 63, who shares Jack, 21, with husband Eamonn Holmes, 64, opened up about her only child fleeing the nest in a candid interview on the In A Good Place podcast with Rosie Nixon. She could be seen becoming tearful as she recalled Jack moving out when he went to study broadcast journalism at Salford University.

Ruth wiped away tears as she told Hello!: "That first week of not having him at home literally felt like part of my heart ripped out."

She continued: "I kept his bedroom door shut. I remember coming into his bedroom and crying and getting hold of the pillow, and I could smell him on the pillow, and had a good old cry, and then shutting the door and then that first week was horrendous because I was just so used to having him around."

Fellow parents were quick to agree with Ruth, with one person writing on Instagram: "I feel your pain I cried when my boys went to uni and sobbed all week when why oldest left home recently. Miss him so much xx."

A second said: "Oh my goodness! Eldest off to uni in September and you've set me off @ruthlangsford I feel you xxx," and a third wrote: "Exactly me. Door closed. Total breakdown. Horrific."

Ruth's emotional confession comes after she opened up about replacing Holly Willoughby on This Morning, saying if she was asked, she would "certainly consider" taking on the role. She also dismissed claims that she was "torn" over whether to go back to This Morning due to husband Eamonn's switch to GB News.

Holly, 42, stepped down from presenting This Morning in October following the exit of her co-host Phillip Schofield in May. ITV are still yet to announced who will take over the pair's roles on a permanent basis, with a series of guests hosts currently fronting the show.

Ruth, who previously hosted This Morning with husband Eamonn, told Woman&Home: “If they asked me, I would certainly consider it. I did a week with Rylan last year and I wasn’t torn because of Eamonn’s situation."

She added: "Eamonn has left ITV, it’s done and dusted. He’s got another job, which he loves. Also, I don’t have to ask Eamonn’s permission to do anything, or for him me, so if ITV said, ‘Would you come and do a week on This Morning?’ and if I was free and it was with the right person, I probably would do it.”

However, Ruth shot down claims that she'd been asked to return, saying: “I love This Morning but reports that ITV have recently asked me back aren’t true. I laughed when I saw that report. I have no idea where these things come from."
