Ruth Langsford on This Morning return without getting Eamon Holmes’ ‘permission’

Eamonn and Ruth announce it’s their last week on This Morning

ITV’s Ruth Langsford has addressed whether or not she’d ever return to This Morning, despite her husband’s “feud” with the broadcaster.

The 63-year-old was a fan-favourite on the daytime show as she hosted each Friday alongside Eamonn Holmes for 15 years.

However, it was announced in 2020 that they’d be leaving their roles with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary taking over.

Since their departure, Eamonn hasn’t held back on sharing his thoughts over their exit and has strongly criticised ITV.

Although there have recently been reports that Ruth will be making an epic comeback to the programme after long-time presenter Holly Willoughby stepped down this month.

Speaking in Woman&Home, for their December issue, Ruth shut down speculation she’s coming back.

She confessed: “I love This Morning but reports that ITV have recently asked me back aren’t true. I laughed when I saw that report.

“I have no idea where these things come from. It’s like when people write a nasty comment on my Instagram, I find it amusing.

“If they asked me, I would certainly consider it. I did a week with Rylan last year and I wasn’t torn because of Eamonn’s situation [turning his back on ITV].

Ruth highlighted that Eamonn is done and dusted with ITV after they cut him from the channel and is enjoying his job at GB News.

She continued: “I don’t have to ask Eamonn’s permission to do anything or for him me.

“So if ITV said, ‘Would you come and do a week on This Morning?’ and if I was free and it was with the right person, I probably would do it.”

Since Holly left her position on This Morning, viewers have seen the likes of female presenters Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson stepping in.

Although fans are demanding Ruth makes a comeback as many took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

@babesmithh commented: “Ruth Langsford should return and replace Holly.”

@kelly_xm_ added: “Bring back Eamon and Ruth full-time!”

With @21VampSt tweeting: “Give Ruth & the lead with Josie alternating with Craig, Rylan, Ben & Steve Jones.”

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am
