Shane MacGowan funeral details revealed as service near home he 'adored' before fitting final tribute on River Shannon | The Sun

SHANE MacGowan will be laid to rest next week in the same church where his beloved mother’s funeral took place, according to pals of the star.

Legions of Pogues fans around the globe are in mourning following the sad death of the legendary singer-songwriter.

It is believed that the late star’s funeral will take place in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, just a stone’s throw from the family farm where Shane grew up.

Although plans for Shane’s memorial are yet to be officially finalised, sources last night told how the rocker is set to be honoured next Friday before he is cremated on Saturday.

And the famed bard’s ashes are then to be scattered on the Shannon, which MacGowan famously wrote about in The Broad Majestic Shannon.

An insider explained: “Shane had many friends in the UK who will want to travel over for the funeral.

“The plan is for his funeral to take place next Friday in Nenagh and then for him to be cremated the following day, with his ashes scattered on the Shannon, which is fitting.

"The church is very near the family farmhouse which Shane adored. He considered it home."

Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Silvermines is where Shane’s mother Therese was laid to rest in 2017.

Therese MacGowan, 87, was killed when the car she was driving struck a wall in Ballintogher on New Year’s Day.
