Sid stages a comeback in Hollyoaks to save trapped James in surprise twist

James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) was rescued by Sid Sumner (Billy Price), who made a surprise return to Hollyoaks in the wake of his recent departure.

As viewers will know, James was left to rot in a coffin within the city walls earlier this week, after Norma Crow (Glynis Barber) discovered that he’d reported her to the police.

The lawyer thought the end was nigh for him, but he received something of a reprieve when the explosion – caused by Silas Blissett (Jeff Rawle) – sent a ripple effect through the eponymous village, causing the coffin to topple off the shelf and the lid to fall open.

His cries for help, however, couldn’t be heard by passers-by due to the carnival chaos, so he remained trapped in the city walls for a number of days.

Friday’s (September 30) edition of the Channel 4 soap saw James become quite delirious, as he started to drift in an out of consciousness, all the while having visions and hallucinations of his own funeral.

Matters were complicated further by the descending rubble, which put his life in danger yet again, leaving the solicitor certain that he was going to die.

But in a surprise twist, Sid came to the rescue, seemingly on something of a search mission, as he told the people behind him that he’d located missing James.

James lost consciousness once more, as Sid pleaded with him to wake up. The question is: Will James be okay?

What’s more, what brings Sid back to the village?

The character left Hollyoaks last week, after Victor Brothers’ (Benjamin O’Mahoney) escape and subsequent reign of terror.

Sid couldn’t shake the feeling that all of it was his fault, and – believing that he put Lizzie Chen-Williams (Lily Best) in danger – he decided to break-up with her.

Lizzie, however, was insistent that they give their relationship another shot, and Sid contemplated doing so – until Dave (Dominic Power) interfered, writing him a cheque to leave the village at once.

Subsequent scenes saw Sid subtly say goodbye to Leela Lomax (Kirsty Leigh Porter), thanking her for everything she’s done for him, before he packed up his belongings and left.

But he’s back in town for now, and next week, he drops a major bombshell on his loved ones.

Hollyoaks continues Monday October 3 at 7pm on E4, or stream the next episode from midnight on Monday on All4.
