Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) finally gets a sense that she’s moving forward in her life following the horrific attack she sustained at the hands of a girl gang a few months ago in Emmerdale.

The teenagers who approached Nicola in a multi-storey carpark wound her up and bullied her, which ultimately led to her being brutally beaten and left for dead.

During the initial aftermath, Nicola struggled with PTSD and panic attacks, fearing the gang would return to attack her again – and then she came face to face with one of the members.

Naomi (Karene Peter) – Charles’ (Kevin Mathurin) daughter – turned out to be the girl in the trainers who briefly appeared in the closing scenes of Nicola’s ordeal and since then, she’s found it challenging to settle into the village, knowing residents already have an opinion of her.

For Nicola, she’s spent time determined to get revenge on Charles, frustrated he supported his estranged daughter more than her.

The storyline reaches a turning point this week when the group of girls, Nicola and Naomi all headed to court, with Nicola Wheeler telling us at the time:

‘We do start to see a different side to Nicola with other little things that are going to happen after this. Nicola can be opinionated. Sometimes people say on social media, “I can’t stand her” and tag me in, and I think, “but you’re being her”. It amuses me, because sometimes people can’t see it in themselves but when you’re confronted with a character, it makes you look in the mirror.

‘The court case makes her do that a little bit. She realises it’s about the impressions you make. She does have a bit of a reality check through it all of going, “this is why I was probably picked on. I did shoot my mouth off – maybe I shouldn’t have”.

‘She is over-opinionated and she is the first one to jump in and say something. Sometimes that filter should be switched on before she speaks.’

Next week, it appears Nicola has learnt a lot from the past few months but so has Naomi, as she shows her some sincerity which causes Nicola to gain a new sense of closure.

This is a positive step in the right direction – perhaps we will see a friendship form between these two soon?
