Steph McGovern breaks silence before final Steph’s Packed Lunch today after axe

Steph McGovern has been taking time to document her final day filming Steph's Packed Lunch today as she prepares for her last episode before the show is axed.

The presenter, 41, broke her silence as she took to Instagram to share a sentimental snap as she cherished every moment of her last day on the set of her Channel 4 Show.

Since the announcement that her lunchtime programme would be ending in December, Steph has carried on as usual and chosen to stay silent about the show's cancellation.

Channel 4 shared their decision to cancel the programme in a statement released in October.

Breaking her silence on the day of the final episode, Steph took to Instagram to share a meaningful photo with her 122,000 followers.

She posted a sentimental snap of her cue cards, her microphone and her earpiece that she uses during filming.

Captioning the photo, she shared: "For one last time… today 12 – 2.10 packed lunch on Channel 4 – episode 675.

"My cue cards, my earpiece and my microphone."

She also shared the photo to her Story alongside the words: "For one last time…the brilliant packed lunch family have got a cracker of a final show for you."

She also uploaded a photo of sunrise at Leeds Dock, where Steph's Packed Lunch is filmed, as well as a mirror selfie with her makeup artist as she sat in the Steph's Packed Lunch glam chair for the final time.

Heartbroken fans rushed to the comment section to share their sadness over the axe.

One user said: "Will be watching – how this brilliant programme is being scrapped given the tripe that remains is beyond me. Have a great last show."

Another commented: "Very sad for you and the team. Big, big mistake cancelling it. Have a great last show Steph, you are the best!"

A third shared: "Absolutely stupid decision to end this show , best daytime show , knocks spots off the others."

When Channel 4 announced the show's axing back in October, they released a statement.

It read: "Steph has not only made the nation's lunchtimes more entertaining and brilliantly reflected the views and pre-occupations of the country, but the show has also been an outstanding springboard for developing local talent behind the scenes.

"However, with audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy and we have decided not to recommission Steph's Packed Lunch when its existing production contract ends in December 2023."

It continued: "We remain as committed as ever to our mission to help level up the TV industry outside London and to our 50% origination out of London target. We will be reinvesting the budget previously committed to Steph's Packed Lunch into other nations and regions productions.

"We have almost 500 roles outside of London and this will continue to increase over the next few years. We will continue to build on the legacy of the show, evolving what we do in line with our digital ambitions whilst continuing to reflect the lives of, and give a voice to, all our audiences across the UK and hope to work with Steph on other projects soon."
