Strictly Come Dancing bosses ‘open to including trans celebrity’ in future

Layton Williams on Strictly being fun

Strictly Come Dancing star Layton Williams confirmed the BBC is open to inviting a trans celebrity to take part in a future series.

The actor is currently impressing the judges each week on the BBC competition alongside his partner Nikita Kuzmin, and is about to enter his third live show.

Last week, the 29-year-old wore a skirt during his Viennese Waltz, receiving praise from fans.

He has previously talked about how much it means to be able to be in a same-sex couple, and speaking to Metro, added that the broadcaster would welcome a trans contestant.

When asked if there could be a chance, he told the publication: “That would be beautiful.

“I think producers are open to all beautiful people from all walks and that would be superb.”

Meanwhile, Nikita said he’d always wanted to be in a same-sex painting following the success of Johannes Radebe and John Whaite two years ago.

“To be honest, it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do on the show, ever since I saw John and Johannes,” he stated.

“They were absolutely fabulous, an iconic partnership.”

Bad Educaiton star Layton has also recently hit back at homophobic trolls.

He told the Liverpool ECHO: “What you see on the show is what life is like for me off the show.

“I would never do something I’m not comfortable with just for the sake of it.

“I’m not here to win the hearts of bigots but what I am here to do is to clap back if they have something to say.

“There have always been homophobes and there have always been racists, but I will get the last laugh.

“I just want to be a beacon of hope and light for younger people watching.”

The actor also delved into how partner Nikita is “pushing him” during rehearsals.

Speaking to Alan Carr on the podcast Life’s a Beach, Layton explained how exhausting the competition has been so far.

He admitted: “I did not think it would be as hard as it was. My partner is pushing me.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
