Strictly Come Dancing legends ‘to return’ as Giovanni Pernice fuels exit rumours

Strictly: Giovanni Pernice returns during Andrea Bocelli performance

Iconic former Strictly Come Dancing professionals could be set to return to the show as another fan favourite is rumoured to be considering departing the BBC programme.

When Amanda Abington prematurely departed the show in October for health reasons it also took her partner Giovanni Pernice out of the competition, although he still appears in group dances.

Fans are now worried that he may leave the show, a theory which was fuelled when former pro-Joanne Clifton alluded that his future may be on the judging panel.

Speaking on behalf of Betway Slots, the Strictly It Takes Two star noted that he could “follow in the footsteps” of co-star Anton Du Beke.“Many of us would like to have a go at judging. I completely get why Anton wanted to. I can see Giovanni Pernice going for it in a couple of years’ time,” she said.

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives for Giovanni for comment.

This speculation led the Daily Star to ask Bard AI who could possibly replace him. The program is one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools and offers plenty of options.

One of its most surprising suggestions was that pro dancers on the show may return and Bard AI listed Aljaž Škorjanec as an example.

“He is a fan favourite and has a reputation for being a good partner to his celebrity contestants. He has reached the final of the show twice, in 2015 and 2017,” it said.

Aljaž still has a connection to the show as his wife, and fellow former professional, Janette Manara is currently a presenter on Strictly It Takes Two. Therefore it is not a stretch to think that he might return at some point.

Another dancer that the system pegged for a return is Kevin Clifton. During his time on the show, Kevin reached the final of the show three times, in 2015, 2016, and 2018.

With his sister Joanne a contributor to Strictly It Takes Two, he also has an ongoing connection to the show. He also recently posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he would return to the show if Will Ospreay signed up so it could be a case of watch this space.

However, the other possibility suggested seems to be most likely. The system said the BBC might “bring in a new professional dancer from abroad”.

It said: “This has happened in the past, with dancers such as Artem Chigvintsev, Gleb Savchenko, and Nancy Xu joining the show in recent years.

“There are a number of talented foreign dancers who could potentially join the Strictly cast, and this would bring a fresh perspective to the show.”
