Strictlys body transformations – 12 stone weight loss to dropping dress sizes

As the latest season of Strictly Come Dancing kicks off there's a new batch of celebrity hopefuls vying to get their hands on the iconic Glitterball trophy.

As the latest group of famous faces hit the dancefloor behind the scenes they have spent months preparing for their big debut and the hard work is only just beginning.

The gruelling routines week by week take their toll both mentally and physically on the contestants – and the results are often easy to see with some spectacular body transformations resulting from the show.

From Judi Love to Bill Bailey here we take a look at some of the biggest body transformations to result from taking part in Strictly.

Judi Love

Loose Women star Judi shed an impressive stone and a half during her stint on Strictly in 2021.

The comedienne opened up about having lost 4lbs just a couple of weeks into her training schedule and continued to drop weight as the weeks wore on.

Eventually, she was forced to bow out of the competition when she lost the dance-off to Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty in week six.

But despite losing Judi was very happy to walk away with her new-found lighter frame.

She told host Tess Daly: "Can I say thanks to Strictly for helping me lose a stone and a half."

Ranvir Singh

Ranvir confessed to her Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan that she had dropped a shocking two dress sizes in just two weeks thanks to her Strictly regime.

Talking about the experience she admitted it had entirely consumed her life which was how she'd got so trim so fast.

She said: "I was talking to Richard Arnold… the fact is I'm not going out anywhere I'm in my little bubble. I literally go to training, I go to set, I do my little dance… [they play her dance from Saturday on the screen] please stop showing that, it makes me embarrassed."

Bill Bailey

When Bill dropped the pounds, his proud professional dance partner Oti Mabuse took to Instagram to let fans now just how impressed she was with his efforts.

Sharing a picture of him on the social media app she wrote: "Who is this person? How much weight did @the_bill_bailey lose? Wow – I should definitely run a dance school and help people lose weight through dance, also Mrs Bailey's very healthy meals have helped #danceismylife #newandimproved #skinnymini."

Bill lost a whopping 1st 7lbs and told Lorraine: "'I'm going to have to get some new clothes – that's on my Christmas list. It's a great workout.

"Most of my clothes don't close now. I feel [healthier, better]. It's very demanding."

Mark Wright

While Mark isn't someone you would ever associate with weight loss thanks to his pristine toned muscly physique, incredibly Strictly saw him shed 1.5 stone.

The transformation saw him cut back on his weight class in the gym as he shared before and after photos with fans online to show them the changes in his body following his exit from the show.

He told fans: "1st time back in the gym doing weights since before strictly started 4 months back. 1.5 stone lighter and I am lifting half the weight. #ahh… This is going to be an uphill battle!"

Lisa Riley

Taking part in Strictly was a life-changing decision for Lisa as it became the catalyst for her incredible weight loss and body transformation.

The former Emmerdale star started on the road to shedding over 12 stones when she signed up to take part in the gruelling physical process that runs alongside being a professional dancer.

She previously talked about her decision to go on the show admitting she felt she had something to prove because of preconceptions about her based on her size.

She said: "I wanted to prove people wrong that I didn't want to be the chunky monkey. And prove everyone wrong that I could dance. I knew I had natural rhythm and I wanted to show people my skill."

Denise Van Outen

Denise has cited Strictly for helping he to learn to live a healthier lifestyle and improve her eating habits.

She previously said: "I learned a lot doing Strictly Come Dancing. You really notice the difference between eating something healthy and something rubbish when you need the energy to keep going."

When asked if the show had helped her to lose any weight she added: "I've gone from a size 10 to an 8 but it's Christmas so I'll soon be back to a 10."

Gemma Atkinson

While Gemma has always been into her fitness she admitted that she underwent a 12-week transformation for her stint in Strictly – which led to her meeting her fiance and Strictly professional dancer Gorka Marquez.

Talking about the regime she said: "My simple goal on this transformation journey is just to become the best version of myself I can be."

However, Gemma admitted that dancing took up so much of her energy, she couldn't stop eating and put on "six or seven pounds before the final".

Naga Munchetty

Popular BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty made some major changes to her already tiny frame when she underwent her Strictly experience in 2016.

Despite being voted off in week four alongside partner Pasha Kovalev she was noticeably more trim and toned following the stint.

Naga admitted she had no dance experience before the show, saying: "I had to dance lessons before I got married and they didn’t quite work out because I ended up falling over on our first dance and James came over and picked me up very gallantly but no they didn’t work out. That’s all I’ve had."

Fern Britton

Popular presenter Fern joined forces with Artem Chigvintsev worked hard to keep her figure in shape week by week when she took part in the popular dance competition.

Prior to starting her run on the show she joked about how she would be disappearing week by week thanks to the tough fitness aspect.

She said: "I could be worn down to a size zero after a week, in which case the costumes might get shorter."

Alesha Dixon

Alesha made moves to become champion when she starred on strictly back in 2007.

The singer-turned-presenter worked so hard that not only did she lose weight but her professional partner Matt Cutler did too.

Previously talking about her dedication to becoming the Glitterball winner she said: "I was training for 10 hours a day and my body was simply exhausted. By the time I got to the final, I'd lost 1st. I really didn't like how thin I was."

Matt added: "I think I lost about five or six kilos working so hard because Alesha really wanted to train every hour."
