Strictly Come Dancing star Layton Williams has hit out at trolls who have abused him on social media, but admitted that "even Beyonce has haters".

The 29-year old appeared on This Morning on Tuesday with his professional dance partner Nikita Kuzmin as the pair discussed their Strictly journey so far with hosts Rochelle Humes and Craig Doyle. Actor Layton found himself in the bottom two on Sunday, but emerged victorious from his dance-off with Angela Scanlon.

After discussing the judges' mixed comments at the weekend, Nikita exclusively revealed the pair will be dancing a Paso Doble to Moulin Rouge's Backstage Romance this weekend. Chat then moved on to more serious matters – the subject of online trolling.

Craig admitted: "It's great to watch and it's great entertainment, but there's an important job you do out there – you're representing the LGBTQ+ community and I'm surprised that I'm not surprised you're getting trolled. I can't get over it, but I understand it happens so much."

Layton responded: "Oh my gosh, yes. It's just one of them things that I kind of I had in my mind that maybe it would happen, but I'm like, 'Really – are we still there?'. Sympathising, Rochelle added: "We always like to think that people like that don't exist."

Layton continued: "I think its more so because I am effeminate sometimes and I like to wear this and I do whatever I want, which the team are really behind. But I get stuff like, 'Can you please just dress as a man and please put a suit on' – but I'm like, 'God, relax.'

Sticking up for his pal, Nikita interjected: "We get defensive of our partners and sometimes people say things they shouldn't, which can get to him on the personal side. I find it sad and unnecessary because at the end of the day we just want to make people happy and put on a show."

Layton added: "I'm sure you know how it feels – you can have thousands of amazing messages and then just one [can hurt]. But I've said it before and I'll say it again – even Beyoncé has haters so lets move on!"

Layton and Kuzmin also explained that there was no beef with head judge Shirley Ballas despite her past criticisms of the pair and her decision to vote them off the show on Sunday. Her vote was irrelevant, however, as fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton du Beke had already chosen to eliminate Angela.

Layton explained: "Shirley has been on board, that temper has been out a few times, but we heart Shirley."
