Heartstopper stars tease season two of Netflix series
Taylor Swift made a subtle cameo in the second season of the smash-hit show Heartstopper with her song Seven – a track about childhood innocence and two close friends who grow up together.
Pairing the emotional track with a tearjerking scene between Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) as they officially take the next step in their relationship had fans flocking to social media, sharing their utter awe at the combination.
One fan jokingly noted on Twitter: “Heartstopper got Taylor Swift, they got big bucks.”
However, the show’s music supervisor quickly cleared up exactly what happened.
Matt Biffa, who has taken charge of the series’ music since the very first episode alongside Ciara Elwis, explained the collaboration had actually been Taylor’s idea.

He wrote: “No, she just thought the scene was beautiful and we were then able to make it work.”
The revelation sent fans into an even deeper frenzy, with some sharing their absolute joy as one declared: “So you mean THIS heartstopper scene with ‘seven’ by taylor swift in the background that highlights sapphic love and absolute queer joy, she was willing to get less money because she thought it was beautiful and her song would be perfect for it????” (sic)
The music supervisor agreed, adding: “Sometimes art is more important than $$$ 🙂 xx” (sic)
Other viewers started bombarding the music supervisor with endless questions, some of which he managed to answer.
A few fans questioned why Taylor had been able to see the scene before fans, with one viewer dubbing the privilege “ridiculous”.

Matt explained she only saw “that specific scene in Ep 8, nothing else x” (sic).
The song plays in the midst of a deeply emotional scene between the show’s leading lesbian couple, Tara and Darcy after some turmoil leads to a very difficult conversation between them.
While Heartstopper fans were overjoyed the show had been able to get the “perfect song” for the scene, Taylor’s own fanbase believed it might confirm some theories about the song itself.
In the nostalgic number, the 33-year-old sings: “Or hide in the closet and just like a folk song our love will be passed on. Please picture me in the weeds. Before I learned civility, I used to scream ferociously any time I wanted.”
Fans believed its inclusion in an LGBTQ+ series like Heartstopper confirmed the theories this lyric, in particular, was “about someone who was metaphorically hiding in the closet because of their sexuality”, as one listener explained on Twitter.
