The Box (Paramount+)

Many true-crime docuseries tend to focus attention on the accused first, the victims second and the police investigators a distant third.

Three-part series The Box is a little different, following things from the cops’ point of view.

The series tells the story of a cold case, the 1976 murder of 16-year-old US high-school student Pamela Maurer, whose body was found beside a snowy road in her hometown of Lisle in Illinois.

Fast-forward 45 years and Detective Chris Loudon of the Lisle Police Department has decided to make it his mission to get justice for Pamela.

I Am Groot (Disney+)

All Guardians Of The Galaxy fans love Baby Groot the most.

This tiny tree-like creature, who grew from a sapling cut taken from the original movie’s adult Groot, is magical, mischievous and ridiculously adorable.

Each episode sees Groot getting into all manner of entertaining scrapes, joined as ever by his regular Guardians buddy Rocket (Bradley Cooper).

Five Days At Memorial (AppleTV+)

When Hurricane Katrina ripped its way through New Orleans and the surrounding areas in late August 2005, it resulted in the deaths of 1,800 people and $125billion worth of damage.

This harrowing but beautifully acted new eight-part drama, based on actual events, tells the story of what happened at the city’s Memorial Hospital when the storm hit, floodwaters rose and the power failed.

Starring Vera Farmiga as Dr Anna Pou and Cherry Jones (Succession) as Susan Mulderick, the nursing director in charge of the hospital during the incident, it’s a terrifying tale, told with all the hallmarks of a Hollywood disaster movie, but one that’s filled with moments of real life bravery and sacrifice.

The first three episodes drop this week, with the remaining five following weekly.

Locke And Key (Netflix)

The third and final series of the adventure-packed fantasy series is here, with the Locke family set to face their greatest threat yet.

Having seemingly rid themselves of Dodge last time round, Nina (Darby Stanchfield) and her kids Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones, fresh from all the plaudits she won for recent hit movie CODA) and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott) must face up to the possibility that the demonic villain isn’t dead after all.

Meanwhile, will Eden make it out of the well? And what fresh horrors are waiting to emerge from behind the Black Door?

Bluey (Disney+)

Peppa who? Dogs are the new pigs in the world of kids’ animation, and this delightful Australian show demonstrates its global clout with series three guest stars including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Natalie Portman and Eva Mendes.

In episode one, Bluey gets her own room – but will she miss little sister Bingo?

It’s honest, funny and – as a blessed relief from its counterparts – never heavy-handed with the morals.

A League Of Their Own (Amazon Prime)

Cast your mind back to 1992 and you might remember hit movie A League Of Their Own, which starred Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna, and followed the adventures of a fictional 1940s women’s baseball team.

Thirty years later, it’s been rebooted as an eight-part comedy-drama series that tells pretty much the same wartime story but pitches in issues such as racism and same sex relationships.

Boasting a strong cast that includes Abbi Jacobson, Chante Adams, D’Arcy Carden as wannabe players Carson, Max and Greta, plus Nick Offerman as the team’s coach Casey Porter, it looks set to be an evocative, nostalgic treat.

Never Have I Ever (Netflix)

Forget quantum physics, the most complicated thing in the world is a teenager’s love life.

That’s certainly the case for Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), as Mindy Kaling’s comedy-drama returns for a third season.

When we were last with her, Devi had rekindled her relationship with hunky Paxton (Darren Barnet), unaware that best pal Eleanor was busily stirring things by telling nerdy Ben (Jaren Lewison) that Devi was still into him.

Expect more love-triangle flavoured fun and coming-of-age drama as the new series unfolds.

Murder In Provence (ITV Hub)

Roger Allam is at his world-weary but wonderful best as genteel Investigating Judge Antoine Verlaque in an entertaining whodunnit series set in the south of France. A heady mix of crime, wine and warm sunshine, murder has never seemed so sunny.
