Mark Labbett, 57, is one of the original Chasers on The Chase, hosted by comedian and actor Bradley Walsh. The ITV quizzer is ruthless when it comes to defeating contestants on the series, showing no mercy taking down opponents in the final round. In recent years, Mark has been very open about his personal life, including his marriage of seven years.
Is The Chase star The Beast related to his ex-wife?
The Chase star Mark Labbett was married to Katie, who is 27 years his junior, having met online in 2010.
They eventually started dating in 2012 after he invited her to watch an episode of The Chase: Celebrity Special being filmed.
Two years later and Mark and Katie got married and now they have four-year-old son Lawrence together.
But it was only after tying the knot that they found out they were related.
As it turned out, Mark and Katie’s dads are first cousins, making the ex-couple second cousins.
Talking on Loose Women about the situation, Mark said: “It wasn’t something we were aware of at the time – it was one of those things that happened.”
They remained married, despite the discovery, but it wasn’t to be as in 2020, Mark and Katie called time on their marriage.
The couple blamed their split on the COVID-19 lockdowns and the 27-year age gap between them.
Before they broke up, Katie confessed she was having an affair with design engineer Scott Bate.
Mark was eager to fight for their relationship no matter what and so they embarked on an open marriage.
“When Katie first came clean to me about her boyfriend, I’d had an inkling,” Mark said at the time.
“But right from the start, my attitude was quite pragmatic – this was spilled milk, what could we do about the situation to make it OK?
“We had a family. We couldn’t just throw that away lightly. There were other considerations.”

Two years on and Mark is not dating anyone new and intends on still looking after his ex-wife.
He told The Sun: “I’m single now. We are separated but we get on really well, we co-parent.
“I promised to look after her and I promised to look after my kid.”
Katie is believed to still be dating Bate, the man she had an affair with.
Appearing on This Morning on Tuesday, October 18, Mark explained how he often guesses on The Chase.
He explained: “I guess all the time. If they say who invented this word and it sounds vaguely old, go for Shakespeare.
“You’ll see on The Chase how many times I say cheese or pasta because it’s the default answer. It sounds Italian, pasta!”
The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
