The Repair Shops Dominic Chinea ready to admit defeat over tough restoration

Jay Blades urges fans to sign up for The Repair Shop

During a recent Instagram Q&A, The Repair Shop’s Dominic Chinea answered fans questions about the BBC show which included his most satisfying restoration.

Touching on the one item that he found the most challenging yet satisfying to fix, Dominic explained: “Oh, you know what, the most satisfying thing about working on these old things is when things go well.

“You are kind of up against it and actually, you get over that hill. It is a struggle and a lot of these things are quite difficult to fix.

“Once you get over that hill and it works, it is kind of like a rollercoaster, the up and down. The one that I am thinking about, I have to be careful.

“It was supposed to be about last week but it was one of the episodes that didn’t air, I believe in a week or two.

“I can’t tell you what it is but it is made of metal and there is one of them clamped to the end of my workbench.

“But you will find out what it is but that was probably one of the strongest moments here where I was ready to admit defeat.

“Jay, bless him, he really helped me through, when that actually worked I was very relieved.”

Despite being challenged on a day-to-day basis, the outcome of the items and seeing the owner’s reactions make the restorations worth it for Dominic.

Opening up on his most emotional fix, Dominic revealed: “Most emotional story, wow! Everything that comes in here has obviously got an emotional story attached to it.

“I think the peat bucket really sticks in my head, it is quite a while ago now and if you haven’t seen it dig it out on iPlayer, have a look.

“But it was just such an amazing story and I was really really honoured and I felt really proud, really pleased to be able to help them.

“They were having a really tough time and it was really nice to be able to help them. It was a fairly straightforward fix so that was quite nice but they were really grateful and a lovely couple.”

The Repair Shop is available to watch in BBC iPlayer.
