Fans of Neil Gaiman’s original series of comic books have been blown away by Netflix’s adaptation of The Sandman so far. After being treated to a faithful adaptation of the source material’s first issues, it appears viewers may not have much longer to wait before the story of Dream of the Endless (played by Tom Sturridge) continues.

There could be much more Sandman on the way soon after descriptions of unreleased episodes were leaked online.

The details appeared in a recent episode of drag queens Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova’s YouTube series, I Like To Watch.

Trixie and Katya’s reaction to the Netflix drama has since been made private, but the cat is already, quite literally, out of the bag.

During their discussion of The Sandman, they referenced a sequence in which giant CGI cats played with tiny humans, which doesn’t appear in the first season.

Later, Dream reunites with a former flame from Greek mythology, Calliope.

These tales appear to be drawn from two one-off stories from a Sandman collection entitled Dream Country.

Published after the release of issue 16, this collection features the issues Calliope and A Dream of a Thousand Cats.

If Netflix has already adapted these standalone tales, there could be a chance they’ll be released as special episodes later in the year.

Showrunner Allan Heinberg has also recently confirmed the existence of extra footage when he opened up about the series at The Sandman’s premiere.

“It would have been too long – we got a little greedy in the shooting of it!” he admitted to Metro.

“Some of them, I think, will be available after we air,” Allan added of the chance of extra scenes.

“It’s stuff that’s in the comics – there’s a lot more with the sleepy sickness patients, and Unity Kincaid, and things that pay off down the line. We managed to sneak some bits in later as well.”

In Dream of a Thousand Cats, Dream meets up with a siamese cat who has become disillusioned with humanity when her kittens are killed.

While in Calliope, Dream must come to the rescue of the Greek muse Calliope after she’s imprisoned by a cruel and desperate author.

Season two has not yet been announced, but Netflix may already have plans to continue the rest of Neil’s series if the first outing proves popular.

Encompassing the first 16 entries of The Sandman, episodes in season one often combined issues which would have been too short for a whole episode.

As the series frequently published shorter, one-off adventures throughout its original publication in the late ‘80s to ‘90s, Dream could return in shorter tales released to streaming outside of the mainline drama.

This model would certainly tide fans over until the release of another 10 episodes to continue Dream’s main quest to save the Dreaming.

For now, though, there’s no official confirmation of when and if The Sandman will continue.

The Sandman season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
