The Serial Killer’s Wife ‘won’t be an easy watch’ warn lead stars

The Serial Killer’s Wife trailer

Serial Killer’s Wife stars Annabel Scholey and Angela Griffin have warned the new thriller releasing on Paramount+ this week is not for the faint-hearted.

Starring Scholey as Beth, the drama kicks off when her husband Tom (played by Jack Farthing) is arrested in front of her whole village by Griffin’s DI Aline Edgeworth.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the stars of the new series, based on the book by Alice Hunter, promised a captivating mystery across the four episodes.

“It digs deep,” Griffin said, and Scholey agreed: “It’s uncomfortable. It’s definitely not an easy watch in places.”

Although crime fans can expect plenty of twists and turns and a healthy dose of violence, The Serial Killer’s Wife refreshes the genre by centering the story around two female leads.

Griffin explained: “I do like that it comes from the female angle.

“The women of this show aren’t the victims, it’s really balanced. It’s not going down those familiar tropes.

“But it still has all the essentials you want in your crime drama. It gives you everything you want, including some beautiful views of the South Coast of England!

“It looks perfect, so it’s just there ready to be shattered.”

While the series opens with Tom’s arrest, it doesn’t become clear whether or not he’s the eponymous serial killer until much later.

Plus, viewers won’t even be certain if they can trust Beth as she immediately plays coy when she’s interrogated by DI Edgeworth.

“She’s complicated,” Scholey said. “That was my first impression.

“She appears to be one thing, then appears to be something else. And then there’s another layer after that.

Teasing the rest of the series, the actress added: “She makes quite shady decisions along the way.

“But, ultimately, she is a good person. And she goes on a journey of self-discovery. I hope she’s not unlikable. She’s meant to be slightly likable.

“But I think it’s good that you don’t know. That’s the point; right until the very end, you don’t really know who anybody is.

“And that’s why, when I read it, I thought, ‘Oh this is good, I want to watch this’. The pace is really good, it keeps everyone guessing with loads of twists and turns.”

The Serial Killer’s Wife releases Friday, December 15 on Paramount+.
