This Morning sparked outrage after Thursday's episode as they served up a risotto made from squirrel.
During Thursday's instalment, the hit ITV chat show discussed reports following the Exmoor Squirrel Project encouraging people to eat grey squirrels in a bid to save the native red squirrel.
And as such, TV chef Phil Vickery decided to rustle up a grey squirrel risotto and buttermilk fried squirrel as some of ITV's stars sampled the dishes.
Phil admitted: "I understand this is a highly-emotive subject and if you are a vegetarian or vegan, then this is horrific to imagine!"
And as presenter Phillip Schofield tucked into the dishes, Holly Willoughby was left grimacing and she quickly put her notepad over her face.
Giving his conclusion, Phillip said: "I don't have a problem with taste, texture or anything – I wouldn't know what it was!"
Those watching at home couldn’t believe what they were seeing and rushed to social media to comment on it.
One person raged: “Squirrel Risotto?? Evil This Morning reaching a new low.”
A second said: “#Thismorning Really .. squirrel .. I won’t be watching, what’s next cat ?? Shameful.”
While a third added: “#ThisMorning cheerfully discussing culling squirrels and murdering all cats. Nice. Humans are evil” as a fourth said: "I've turned to another channel. I love the grey squirrels that visit our garden."
"Eating f***ing squirrel #JeremyVine yesterday and today #ThisMorning WTAF is wrong with," another vented.
In the end, Phillip was the only one who ended up tasting the risotto as Holly refused.
She said: "No thank you," as she was offered the food before she later added: "It's so weird, the thought of it, I can already feel it in my throat… makes me feel a bit" and held her hand against her mouth as if she was going to throw up.
Viewers also insisted they would never eat it themselves.
"I’ll pass on Phil Vickery’s “humanely dispatched” squirrel risotto, thanks #ThisMorning," one wrote, whilst another asked: "So why are you so against killing all the cats in the covid part , but OK with eating squirrels in your next bit #thismorning."
One furious fan added: "I LOVE Squirrels but not to eat, and i dont agree with culling grey squirrels in favour of red ones, i got tonnes of grey squirrels in my garden, they are pure joy, they are funny AND pigeons are scared of them too lol, i won't ever eat a squirrel!"
