This Morning hosts in awkward moment as Phillip Schofield gets mentioned

This Morning: Dermot O’Leary thanks guest for ‘fruity language’

This Morning presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary were left in an awkward position on Monday morning when comedian Jack Whitehall mentioned Phillip Schofield in his interview.

While discussing his new life as a father and his upcoming tour, Jack discussed his previous appearances on the show.

Tucking into a shepherd’s pie, Jack explained that he had never been invited to try food on the show before.

He explained: “I’ve never been fed before. I got some caffeinated moisturiser from Holly [Willoughby] and Phil once. And Vanessa Feltz sat on me on that sofa.”

Jack thought the pie he was eating was spicy and proceeded to say: “I had hot chicken in Nando’s once and my a**e was like the flag of Japan.”

Viewers of the show didn’t let the moment slip and took to their X accounts, formerly known as Twitter, to pick up on the moment.

Katrina Enbers noted: “Oop let’s quickly brush past that Phil moment shall we team…”

@KerryMerry said: “Oh Jack… that was a bit awkward mentioning Phil!”

Paul Unners commented: “A classic Phil slip-up, he’s only been gone a couple of months but we’ll let Jack catch up!”

@MickyMichaelMoo quipped: “Anyone hear Jack mention the scorned man Phil?”

However, not all viewers thought it was as awkward as Jill Namely added: “It’s not a bit deal, he mentioned someone who used to work on the show… big whoop now move on.” (sic)

During his interview, Jack opened up about his new life as a father and said: “I still feel like I am very much in the trenches, we are six weeks in and my baby daughter is amazing and it’s all so full-on.

“People do say there is a honeymoon period and the first week was so amazing, and blissful then by the second week I was googling boarding schools, it happened that quickly.”

Since Phil and Holly’s departure, there has been question over who will be taking over the permanent role on the show.

Ben Shephard recently broke his silence on rumours he’s swapping Good Morning Britain for ITV This Morning as a permanent replacement.

He told The Mirror: ‘What I can tell you is I’m doing some more – I’m gonna be doing some more but I’m just helping out really.

“So I’ve got some days coming up between now and Christmas. So I’m not exactly sure but I’m still very, very much part of the furniture…”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
