EastEnders fans were surprised and delighted recently when it was announced that Thomas Law would be reprising his role as Peter Beale in the soap.
His return comes amid the much-heralded returns of Adam Woodyatt and Michelle Collins as Ian and Cindy Beale. Although Cindy was officially ‘dead,’ in a shock twist it’s been revealed that she’s alive and well and has been living in France with Ian and Peter under witness protection.
A special episode revealed the twist, and also the added tie to Albert Square that Cindy Beale is also the missing Rose Knight, wife of George and mum of Gina and Anna. Show boss Chris Clenshaw promised, ‘This special episode is just the beginning of some sensational new stories for the Beales, who will return to the Square full time later in the year.’

Thomas Law played Peter Beale between 2006 and 2010, with Ben Hardy and Dayle Hudson taking on the role after he left.
The character of Peter left Walford in July last year after turning his back on his family. With Kathy (Gillian Taylforth)’s wedding to Rocky (Brian Conley) coming up, the family and particularly younger brother Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) are keen to be reunited with him.
Thomas Law has told fans of his happiness at returning to his old role.
‘Over the years, I had hoped for a return to the Square although I never thought it would happen so it’s an absolute delight to be back in Walford as Peter Beale,’ he said. ‘It’s been great to see familiar and new faces, and I can’t wait to explore the character again in the wake of Cindy’s return – it’s an exciting time to return!’
Chris Clenshaw, added: ‘We’re delighted to have him back permanently, but one thing is for certain, the Beales’ comeback will be nothing less than explosive for the Square.’
It sounds like it’s going to be a full-on work schedule for Thomas, which means that he’s had to quit another long-running job.
Thomas has been part the ITV drama The Bay since its second series which aired in 2021. He played the role of DC Eddie Martin in the crime series which is set around Morecambe Bay.
An ITV source has been quoted as saying, ‘Everyone at The Bay is sad about Tom leaving. He was really popular with his co-stars and the viewers.
