Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) has been left in total shock in Coronation Street this week after learning that mum Cassie (Claire Sweeney) is actually still alive.
Reeling from the revelation, he cut both Cassie and Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) out of his life.
However, his curiosity soon got the better of him in tonight’s (August 18) episode, as he headed over to question his mum over her disappearance all those years ago.
In emotional scenes, Cassie revealed that after his birth she had moved to South Africa with a boyfriend who turned out to be very controlling, and prevented her from contacting her family back in the UK.
She continued to explain that she had become a ‘total mess’, but said that that was mostly down to Evelyn.
She revealed how she had started drinking by the time she was 12, and was already on drugs at 15. She chalked this down to being a shy child growing up around arguing parents.
Cassie left Tyrone shocked when she revealed that Evelyn had blamed her for her father’s brain haemorrhage, claiming that it was the stress she had caused him.
When Tyrone struggled to get his head around why she would have abandoned him, Cassie revealed that Evelyn had lied to him about her not wanting him.
It soon became clear that she had won him round, when Evelyn arrived and was hit with the bombshell that Cassie would be moving in with Tyrone so that they could get to know each other better.
Evelyn was horrified that Cassie would be under the same roof as Hope and Ruby (Isabella Flanagan and Billie Naylor), but Tyrone assured her that they were heading off to Norwich to see mum Fiz (Jennie McAlpine).
Though she wasn’t happy about it, she was relieved to be able to keep an eye on them both under one roof.
However, Tyrone had other plans, as he insisted that Evelyn wasn’t welcome.
Evelyn insisted that he was making a big mistake, but Tyrone was determined that he would find that out himself.
Later, after Hope and Ruby had been waved off to Norwich, Cassie settled in at Tyrone’s while Evelyn confided in Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
Ever the voice of reason, Roy pointed out that he understood where Tyrone was coming from, but also realised that Evelyn had only lied to protect him.
Evelyn explained that she suspected Cassie was still using drugs, and that she would take advantage of Tyrone’s kindness.
It soon became clear that Evelyn’s suspicions may be correct, as Cassie reached into her bag while trying to keep the contents hidden from Tyrone.
Inside were a box of prescription drugs. Have they been prescribed to her, or is Evelyn right?
