On Two Doors Down you can ditch your friends and even your family, but there’s no escape from nosy neighbours.

The Scottish sitcom returns for series seven with Eric and Beth Baird still trying to steer clear of the insufferable residents of Latimer Crescent.

As the award-winning show makes a comeback, it’s gone back to its roots with Cathy Whyte (Doon Mackichan) coming home after trying to start a new life in Egypt.

“I was delighted to hear Doon was coming back,” says Jonathan Watson, who plays Cathy’s husband, Colin.

“The two characters are just so selfish, materialistic and insensitive, so it was great to get back into it."

“Colin had lost a little bit of that towards the end of the previous series – although it was great to explore Colin on his own and discovering Tinder. But I know Colin was as delighted to have Cathy back as I was.”

The whole gang’s back together, with Jonathan, Doon, Alex Norton (Eric), Elaine C Smith (Christine), Grado Stevely (Alan), Joy McAvoy (Michelle), Jamie Quinn (Ian), Kieran Hodgson (Gordon) and Arabella Weir as Beth all returning.

“I love playing Beth,” says Arabella. “She’s basically my mum’s mum, although she’s not a nippy sweetie as we say in Scotland. It doesn’t take much to get into character – Beth’s always the one rolling her eyes thinking, ‘Oh, here we go again.’”

So what’s in store for all the neighbours in the new six-part series?

“There’s one episode where Grado and I had to eat about three Chinese meals each before 9.30pm,” reveals Jonathan. “I’ll be looking forward to how we get through that on-screen.”

“A very funny episode is the one at the carvery,” teases Arabella. “It’s always fun when we get to go outside Beth and Eric’s house. I always like seeing Kieran strut his stuff – and Elaine makes funny comments about being about to smell meat.”

As for her relationship with her own neighbours, Arabella has a surprising revelation.

“I’m a bit more Christine than I am Beth in real life,” she confesses. “I’m the one going, ‘You left your lights on’, or ‘I saw a parcel outside your door.’ Someone gave me a fridge magnet that said ‘neighbourhood witch’! So I actually like the whole neighbours in and out aspect of Two Doors Down.”
