Where Freaky Friday cast are now… from Paris Hilton cheating scandal to shocking family murder & controversial photo row | The Sun

WHEN it comes to comedy coming-of-age flicks, few can compare to 2003's Freaky Friday, which turns 20 this year.

Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, the story centres around a mother and daughter duo who switch bodies after eating a mystical Chinese fortune cookie.

Freaky Friday, based on a novel of the same name, premiered to rave reviews from critics, won several awards and made over $160million.

This week Jamie, 64, sent fans into overdrive when she revealed plans to reunite with Lindsay for a sequel, insisting "it's going to happen".

While the cast has enjoyed varying levels of success since the film, some have faced personal struggles, as we reveal…

Jamie Lee Curtis – Tess

Producers initially eyed Jodie Foster to play Anna's widowed mother Tess, but she declined.

Annette Bening was then cast in the role, but she dropped out four days before production was set to begin. Scream star Jamie Lee Curtis, 64, then agreed to take on the part.

Three years after its release, Jamie said she was bowing out of acting to focus on her family – but her break only lasted a year.

In 2018 she returned to the Halloween movies for a sequel, which was a massive success and became the highest-grossing film in the franchise.

The two-time Golden Globe winner also starred in 2021's Halloween Kills and last year's Halloween Ends.

Jamie is married to Christopher Guest, a member of Britain's House of Lords, and shares two children with him.

Earlier this year Jamie attracted backlash for a photo hanging in her home which appeared to feature a naked child in a metal tub, which some people claimed to find disturbing.

In a statement, Curtis said the photo was simply a photo of a little girl, taken by her mother, playing in water, "nothing more, nothing less".

Lindsay Lohan – Anna

Linday scooped the MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Performance for her portrayal of teenager Anna.

She had already been in The Parent Trap and Life Size, but Freaky Friday catapulted her career to new heights.

A string of chick flicks followed for Lindsay, 36, including Just My Luck, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and the box office smash Mean Girls, which has developed its own cult following.

The actress, however, fell victim to the child star 'curse'; she battled substance abuse and even ended up behind bars.

After several rehab stints and turbulent relationships with Wilmer Valderrama and Samantha Ronson, she turned her life around and moved to Dubai in 2014.

Last year she made a triumphant return to acting in Christmas movie Falling For Christmas, one of her first gigs since 2019.

She has also settled down and tied the knot with financier Bader Shammas, whom she called "my life and my everything" in a sweet Instagram post.

Chad Michael Murray – Jake

Chad, 41, was once one of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs, having shot to fame as Lucas Scott in One Tree Hill.

He later starred opposite Hilary Duff in A Cinderella Story and played Charlie Todd on Dawson's Creek.

Chad fell in love with his One Tree Hill co-star Sophia Bush and they married in 2005. Their marriage broke down, however, when he reportedly cheated with House of Wax co-star Paris Hilton.

Chad and Sophia clashed in 2018 after Sophia told Andy Cohen in an interview that the marriage was not something she "actually really wanted to do".

Chad's reps hit back with a statement which explained: "Chad conducts himself in a completely professional manner and would never marry for any reason but love."

Now married to Sarah Roemer, who he met on the set of Chosen, he recently starred in Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman and Fortress: Sniper's Eye.

Ryan Malgarini – Harry

Ryan, who became interested in acting after seeing his grandmother star in commercials, was only 11 when he played Anna's brother Harry.

He has continued to act in films such as How to Eat Fried Worms and 2013's Riddle.

Now 30 and unrecognisable, he won a Young Artist Award in 2012 for his portrayal of Matt in Mike & Molly.

One of Ryan's most successful projects was the film The Young Kieslowski – an uncomfortable comedy about an accidental pregnancy.

It  won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2014 and triumphed in the Best American Independent Feature Film category at the 2015 Cleveland International Film Festival.

Christina Vidale – Maddie

The role of Maddie, Anna's best friend, was meant to go to Kelly Osbourne, but she turned it down following her mother Sharon's cancer diagnosis.

Christina, 41, eventually bagged the part and has gone on to have a successful career.

In 2006 she did a pilot for a new sitcom that wasn't picked up, and starred in WWE's See No Evil.

She also starred in Blue Bloods, Training Day, and United We Fall.

Christina married Marcus Mitchell in 2016 and has two kids.

Mark Harmon – Ryan

Once named the sexiest man alive, the 71-year-old was a household name before appearing as Anna's future stepfather Ryan.

After the film, Mark played the lead role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS but was dropped in 2021, leaving fans devastated.

It emerged he'd had a falling out with former co-star Pauley Perrette (who played Abby Sciuto). She left the show in 2017 claiming to have suffered bullying.

It apparently kicked off after Mark brought his dog to work one day, and it bit a crew member, who required 15 stitches.

After the incident it was claimed he continued bringing the dog which upset Pauley and other cast members.

Mark has been married to actress Pam Dawber since 1987 and they share two children.

Julie Gonzalo – Stacey

Julie played Anna's nemesis Stacey in Freaky Friday – and starred alongside her co-stars in other films including A Cinderella Story with Chad, and Christmas with the Kranks with Jamie Lee.

Julie, 41, has appeared on TV shows such as Veronica Mars, Nikita, and CSI: Miami

The Argentine-born American star also starred in a number of TV movies for the Hallmark network.

In 2018 Julie met actor Chris McNally on the set of their movie The Sweetest Heart and began a secret relationship.

They announced the birth of their first child in June last year.

Haley Hudson – Peg

Freaky Friday was the first time Haley, 36, had starred in a feature film.

She played Peg and later went on to star in other movies including Marley & Me alongside Jennifer Aniston, and horror flick The Pact 2.

Haley has also guest starred in TV shows including Lizzie McGuire and The Mentalist, but doesn't appear to have any big production credits since 2014.

Stephen Tobolowsky – Mr Bates

The Tony Award-nominated actor was already an established character actor before Freaky Friday and starred in Silicon Valley and The Goldbergs after the film.

He's been typecast in Hollywood as most of his movies have seen him play doctors and professors.

Stephen, 71, married fellow actor Ann Hearn in 1988 and has two children.

His attorney cousin, Ira, was infamously murdered in his home in 2016 by a disgruntled former litigant, Steven Aubrey, 61.

Ira's body was found in his burning garage in Dallas, Texas.

Willie Garson – Evan

Willie played a small but memorable part in Freaky Friday as Evan.

He was already a household name due to his role as Stanford Blatch in Sex and the City, starring opposite Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall.

He also had cameos in TV shows CSI: Miami, Girl Meets World, and posthumously starred in three episodes of Sex and The City spinoff And Just Like That…
