His friends and fans flooded the comments section with support for the star, gushing over him as "incredible" and "fantastic".

Among them was Paddy McGuinness, who wrote: "Fantastic pal," while Gemma Atkinson chimed in: "You did amazing, should be proud."

"You were brilliant Will, you deserved to go through," a third person said, as a fourth added: "Gutted for you, the wrong person saved."

It comes after furious fans branded the show a fix after Will Mellor got the boot alongside his pro dancer Nancy Xu.

He missed out on a place on the final after a dance-off against Fleur East, which saw head judge Shirley Ballas have the deciding vote.

Following the results fans rushed online to complain, with one person tweeting: “Definitely seems there was a conspiracy to get rid of Will."

“It’s hard to think of contestant who’s ever received such a battering in a semi final," a second angrily chimed in.

A third agreed: “The judges were overly harsh and clearly showed favouritism to others."
