X Factor’s Katie Waissel breaks her silence after death of her nan – the UK’s ‘oldest prostitute’ | The Sun

KATIE Waissel broke her silence last night following the news of her grandma’s death at the age of 93.

The singer, 36, was estranged from Sheila Vogel-Coupe, who was known as the UK’s oldest prostitute.

In an emotional Instagram live, Katie suggested she was unaware of her death until her auntie Josie shared her story with The Sun.

Katie said:  “I have been made aware of the news about my 93-year-old grandmother passing away. It is understandably a sad and sensitive time. It’s a very sensitive subject to be made public unbeknownst to any of us.

“It is very disrespectful for someone in the family to disclose that information without anybody knowing.”

Addressing her relationship with her nan, the X Factor star continued: “I never had an issue with what she did. I had an issue with the fact I messaged her and said grandma ‘ we will work through this as a family’.

"The next day she said I ruined her life as a prostitute and a porn star on national TV at the height of my vulnerability after we had spoken about it by text message.”

The mum-of-one added: “I am not going to sit here and say I am heartbroken, I am heartbroken but I am more heartbroken that 12 years on that said people, be it a family specific member, are making it public.”

Yesterday Shelia’s loved ones told The Sun how the self-styled "Grand Dame" advertised her sexual services until the Covid pandemic struck, when dementia took hold.

Grieving daughter Josie told The Sun her famous mum, who died last Friday, was “amazing”.

She added: “We were so proud of her. Her passing deserves a mention because she was so unique.”

Sheila turned to escorting after the death of her husband in 2004, finding solace in the company of her punters – some of whom were in their early twenties.

She caused more heartache for her family when she appeared on This Morning to blast Katie for costing her business.

Speaking to presenter Eamonn Holmes in 2011, she explained that her granddaughter's exposure on the seventh series of The X Factor had left her too exposed and scared off multiple clients.

She said: “Absolutely Katie has ruined my career. I’m afraid she has. But I still wish her well. I love them all.

“I love her and it breaks my heart to see my family split up like that. I would just ask them to not be so judgemental.”
