Yellowstone spin-off shares first look at Lawmen Bass Reeves

Lawmen: Bass Reeves teaser trailer

The first trailer for the Yellowstone spin-off Lawmen: Bass Reeves starring British actor David Oyelowo has dropped.

While fans may be eagerly awaiting the second half of season five of the main series it appears that their appetites for the world of Yellowstone will be more than whetted by the new show.

The 22-second clip sees David introduce himself as Bass Reeves as he says: “I’m the law of this land, I’m Deputy US Marshal Bass Reeves.”

The clip also teases some of the shows action with snippets of shooting and doors being kicked in.

Paramount+ also released photos showcasing some of the characters in the show. City on a Hill star Lauren E Banks plays Bass’s wife, Jennie Reeves and poses beside him in one image.

Unlike the other Yellowstone characters, David’s character Bass Reeves was a real-life person.

He was a former slave turned law enforcement official, and is noted as the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River.

It is on record that he undertook more than 3,000 arrests of dangerous fugitives and shot and killed 14 of them in self-defence which means there is plenty of action packed historical facts to draw on for the anthology series.

Indeed Paramount+ reference this in the shows synopsis which says: “Reeves, known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.”

David, who is best known for playing Martin Luther King Jr. in the acclaimed film Selma, executive produces the series alongside Taylor Sheridan who is the brains behind the whole Yellowstone franchise.
