The cast of Yellowstone stepped out in style this week for the exciting premiere event of the Western drama’s fifth season. Before the rest of the world gets the chance to witness the Paramount Network’s TV event of the year, Wes Bentley was spotted sporting a foot injury he claimed he sustained during a daring nature excursion.

Jamie Dutton star Wes claimed he injured his foot by kicking a bear at the Yellowstone season five premiere this week.

Wes was joined by fellow cast members Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Luke Grimes and Gil Birmingham in New York to celebrate the upcoming launch of the new season.

The actor donned a stylish checked suit and showed off his salt-and-pepper beard for the occasion.

However, many fans won’t help but notice he was also sporting a black walking boot cast to help him recover from a recent injury.

“I was on a camping trip with my kids in Montana,” he revealed during an interview at the premiere.

“A bear approached and I kicked him in the face and broke my foot.”

The reporter in attendance was clearly in disbelief at Wes’ tall tale, but the actor maintained his story.

“But the bear started crying,” he told ET. “I didn’t know bears could cry. But this bear was crying.

“He felt bad, he apologised to my kids and made them a nice meal.”

“I had to sacrifice my leg for it so I hope my kids are appreciative, otherwise I’ll have to kick them out of the house.”

Eventually, Wes all but admitted the anecdote was fabricated as he is still in the mindset of keeping secrets for the forthcoming season of Yellowstone.

“I just like to tease things constantly!” he said. “I never leave the mentality.”

Wes hasn’t revealed the truth behind his new injury, though it’s possible it could have been sustained on a camping trip with his family.

The actor has been married to producer Jacqui Swedberg since 2010, with whom he has a son and a daughter.

Continuing to tease the Duttons’ new challenges in Yellowstone season five, Wes was asked to describe the fifth instalment in just three words.

“I’m kind of stealing this, but I liked it: Burn. It. Down,” he said.

This could spell trouble for Jamie’s future on the series, but Wes is clearly still excited to be part of such a TV phenomenon.

“It’s wild,” he added. “It’s something I never [thought I] would have been a part of.

“I’m really happy it’s this show too, because everyone really puts a lot into it. Our crew gives so much, sacrifices a lot, to make the show look like how it does.

“I’m just so grateful. It’s fun. It’s fun because you get funny things said to you. People are so passionate. I’m just grateful they love it.”

Yellowstone season five premieres Sunday, November 13 on Paramount Network in the USA and the following Monday on Paramount + in the UK.
