A Level students have flooded social media with hilarious memes as they collected their exam results. 

The long-awaited decision day at the end of the summer holidays has arrived – and with it many emotions, from jubilation to disappointment to grudging acceptance. 

Students have braced for a ‘bitter pill’ as grades plunged with the aim of reducing the inflation of results. 

As a result, the proportion of those awarded the top grades has plunged, with 19,000 students in a Clearing frenzy after missing out on their chosen university. 

More than a quarter (27.2 per cent) of UK entries were awarded an A or A* grade, down by 9.2 percentage points on last year when 36.4 per cent got the top grades.

And the tension was heightened even further on Thursday morning as the UCAS website crashed, meaning some could not access their results as promised at 8am.  

Many chose to handle the stress of the big day by taking to social media to make light of the situation. 

From tweeting pictures of Gemma Collins in the diary room on Big Brother to jokes about hyperventilating into a plastic bag, the witty commentary did not disappoint.  

One tweeted: ‘If I don’t open my A level results then I can’t fail them.’ 

Meanwhile, another added: ”It’s officially Thursday…. Happy Alevel Results Day Everyone’ – but inserted a crying emoji in between each word.

Many reactions on social media revolved around Jeremy Clarkson’s classic annual tweet, boasting of his success despite his poor A Level results. 

As expected, he took to Twitter to announce: ‘It’s not the end of the world if your A level results aren’t what you’d hoped for. 

‘I got a C and two Us and here I am today with my own brewery.’

Nervous pupils responded with frustration as they began to tire of the ex Top Gear star’s boasts. 

One said: ‘Waking up to see Jeremy Clarkson and Alan Sugar’s annual tweet about their two Us and one C they got when they sat their a-levels back in 1965.’

Another advised: ‘Don’t worry if you fail all your a levels, Jeremy Clarkson got a C and 2Us and gets to talk about it on Twitter every year’
