TRIBUTES have been paid to a mum and her three-year-old son after they died in a horror crash.

Police were scrambled to the scene in Immingham, Lincolnshire, after a lorry collided with a stationary Ford Focus.

Tragically Nicola Courtney, 34, and little Lucas Page could not be saved.

Tributes have now flooded in for the mum and son, who were both from Scunthorpe.

One person wrote: "I’ve never known a life without you In it nor has Alfie without Lucas.

"I thought they’d grow up together like we did and now we’ve lost you both.

"I’ll love you forever my best friend and cousin. Rip my darling nicola and beautiful little Lucas".

While another loved one said: "Absolutely devastated to find out my dear friend Nicola Courtney and baby Lucas passed away!

"You literally never know the last time your going to speak to someone is! I’m heartbroken. You will be missed."

Humberside Police confirmed the horror unfolded when a lorry travelling on the A180 crashed into a stationary blue Ford Focus.

A probe has been launched but it is believed the Ford had broken down in a live lane.

Officers confirmed a voluntary referral has been made to the Independent Office of Police Complaints (IOPC) in relation to the collision.

The force added: "A mum, and her little boy, who died in a collision on the A180, Immingham on Friday 10 March, have been named by their families.

"Their families continue to be supported by specialist trained officers and partnering agencies and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this incredibly difficult time.

"The full circumstances of the collision will be established during this complex investigation, and we would ask for people not to speculate about the circumstances of the crash."
