A trans activist who called a father a ‘fascist’ as he was holding his baby has apologised but claimed the abuse was an attempt to ‘protect’ her trans friends – amid calls for her to be sacked from her job as a Labour MP’s aide.
Carly-May Kavanagh, a policy caseworker in the House of Commons for Brighton MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle, is shown in footage with another woman shouting at the unidentified man with the baby in his arms at a rally in Brighton.
The video footage featuring Miss Kavanagh and a woman friend was posted on Twitter and has been viewed more than 750,000 times.

The friend tells the man: ‘Oh you’re raising a little fascist’.
Miss Kavanagh then joins in and tells the unidentified man: ‘F****** fascist… you think that’s a good idea, do you, to raise a child who believes this filth […] you are disgusting.’ At one point she comes within inches of the baby, which remains calm.
Miss Kavanagh – a University of Southampton graduate who has worked as a journalist at publications including NME and The Independent – has since issued an apology which stopped short of saying sorry to the man himself.
She tweeted: ‘On Saturday, I let down the trans community with my behaviour. My desire to protect my trans friends led me to act in a way I shouldn’t have. I am embarrassed by my actions and I am sorry.
‘This has been a tough learning experience for me and should be a lesson to us all. My shouting and manner was wrong and is now being used against the trans community that we all want to support. I was in the wrong and it won’t happen again.’
As social media users called for her to be sacked, Brighton broadcaster Simon Fanshawe – a former c-founder of Stonewall – wrote an open letter to Mr Russell-Moyle asking for reassurance he is dealing with the matter.
He wrote: ‘It would be reassuring to know you are dealing with this in an appropriate matter and will go on the record by saying that you do not agree that those of your constituents who do hold ”gender critical” views are not ‘fascists’ and that, as their MP, you will listen to their anxieties and misgivings about self-ID with an open mind.’

Miss Kavanagh was with another woman who even called the baby a ‘little fascist’. The footage shows the women shouting at the unidentified man with the baby in his arms at a rally in Brighton. Miss Kavanagh has since issued an abject apology
She was apparently demonstrating against supporters of the Standing For Women organisation which held a rally in a Brighton park on Sunday.
The group ‘Reclaim Pride Brighton’ described the Standing For Women event as part of a ‘transphobic hate tour’ and claimed ‘fascists’ were attempting to ‘rile up hatred for trans people’.
The protesters disrupted speeches by the Standing For Women founder Kellie-Jay Keen and other speakers.
Keen has frequently attracted the ire of pro-trans activists over her views on gender rights.
The women’s rights campaigner said today: ‘Shouting fascist in front of a baby is a particularly visible sign of how this movement is full of absolute lunacy. As far as I’m concerned transgender ideology is a quasi-religious cult and it’s very dangerous.
‘It seeks to use fear and intimidation to silence dissent. I’ve been interviewed by the police twice and arrested once.
Responding to Miss Kavanagh’s apology, she said: ‘This young woman was absolutely disgusting in her behaviour and still doesn’t seem to understand what she’s done wrong. She hasn’t apologised to the father, she’s just apologised for embarrassing her trans allies.’
Keen’s talk was disrupted by protesters from Reclaim Pride Brighton, who vowed to ‘bring flags and noisemakers’.
It led to a clash between pro-trans and women’s rights supporters, with pictures showing police dragging two people away from the scene.
A line of police officers had to separate the rival groups, with many wearing black masks.
Police made two arrests during clashes between the rival groups after smoke bombs were let off. Several hundred attended the event.
Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who has faced death threats from trans zealots, said of the incident: ‘I see the Be Kind brigade are once more hiding behind their black masks, throwing smoke bombs, screaming ‘scum’ at women speaking up for their sex-based rights and howling abuse at lesbians.’
The Harry Potter author, 57, since she mocked an online article in June 2020 which used the words ‘people who menstruate’ instead of ‘women’.

She has been targeted by trolls after making critical comments about the transgender lobby – including protesters standing outside her home with placards after her address was posted online last year.
Keen, meanwhile, told MailOnline earlier this month that her events had been hit by a number of threats and warnings.
She spoke out after officers from Sussex Constabulary were alerted to a number of menacing messages against her.
They included many branding Keen – who is also known as Posie Parker – a TERF and urging people to ‘Fight her by any means you see fit’.
She told MailOnline: ‘I have been called a Nazi for saying I don’t think women have penises. Once you can portray someone as the most heinous person in society – a Nazi – I guess anything goes.
‘I have had a lot of threats over the years, I have been told about how they hope my children get cancer.

‘Sadly, it’s not unusual for trans activists to issue threats about women wanting to talk about our rights – JK Rowling is a prime example of that.
‘We are subjected to a wide range of menacing messages.
‘I think the whole social media thing depersonalises people as well. We have been dehumanised by the term TERF. There are some quite disturbed people within that group, like others I guess.
‘It’s a very effective campaign that we are supposed to believe that men that want to call themselves women are the most vulnerable group in society.
‘When I was a bit younger I could walk to Tesco with my children and some man would tell me what they thought of my appearance. We as women sadly have become used to these regular infringements. I think the whole identity politics issue is a poison.
