Airline sparks huge debate after plans for ‘child-free zones’ on planes

An airline has proposed a child-free zone – and it’s already sparked a fierce backlash online.

Many of us have been on a less than perfect flight that’s been impacted by energetic – and noisy – little ones.

Now, an airline has proposed introducing an area where kids are definitely not welcome.

Dutch carrier Corendon said the move is intended to cater for people travelling without children or those who need a quiet place to work, reports MailOnline.

And – they say – it will also help parents who are fretting about a negative reaction to their children’s antics.

A spokesperson said: “This zone in the aircraft is intended for passengers travelling without children and for business travellers who want to work in a quiet environment.

“At the same time, the introduction of the Only Adult zone also has a positive effect for parents with children.

“They don’t have to worry as much about possible reactions from fellow passengers if their child is a bit busier or cries.”

But the idea has divided flyers online.

One X, formerly Twitter user, said: “So apparently airlines are considering making ‘child free zones’ on planes, & I can’t decide if this is a dystopian shift or not, but generally it’s really sad how little tolerance people have for children & babies – even acting like they shouldn’t be in public.”

Another added: “I’ve noticed people seem more annoyed with kids in public than I’ve ever seen before.

“Usually people see little kids and babies and smile or whatever but that’s seeming to slowly change. It’s weird and sad.”

But others thought it was a great idea.

One said: “I didn’t realise how much I wanted an adults-only section until @Corendon_Air created one”

Another said: “Adults-only zones, unpestered by kids, on planes? Sign us up!”

“Bro this makes me love Corendon even more. It already is my favourite airline, together with Condor, but this just lifts it even higher,” said another X user.

The option will be available on certain Carendon flights launching on November 3.

The adults only zone will be in the front section of the aircraft and consist of nine seats with extra legroom and 93 standard seats.

A seat reservation in the child free area is only available to over-16s.
