An eight-year-old boy has suffered life-threatening injuries and another child is in hospital after a car allegedly hit them while they played in a laneway in a suburb in Melbourne’s west on Tuesday evening.

Victoria Police said a 48-year-old man was arrested after his Toyota Prado allegedly struck two parked cars in a rear laneway between Wirraway Ave and Liberator Lane in Braybrook before hitting two young children who were playing about 5.20pm.

Police said in a statement the Prado then hit another parked car and the eight-year-old boy was pinned between the vehicles. Emergency services later freed the child.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another three-year-old boy was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Braybrook man, who police said was the driver of the Prado, is assisting police with their inquiries.

Major collision investigation unit detectives and local police are still investigating the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam/CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
